THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES THIS THURSDAY @ 3 CLUBS

Happy New Year!

If you are like us, you've had your fill of down time, Mom's pies, bad television, and it's time to shake off the holidays and get back on the street and see some live music. This Thursday, THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES returns to 3 Clubs with a line up that will force you back into the game.

AUSHUA, a local band we fell for back when we had "Sister Saves" grace Future Sounds 30 back in October '07. They've only gotten stronger and are out showing off their new material.

CHASING KINGS - A trusted source first turned us onto their new material, and songs like "This Town" have earned a regular spot on the weekly Future Sounds playlist on WOXY. Can't wait to see this band live.

CAT PARTY- We basically started stalking this band soon after hearing early demos and 7" vinyl only releases, then just got their EP. Look for them to appear on upcoming Future Sounds releases, be sure to get to the show early so you don't miss this potential break out act of 2010.

The lovely ladies that are DJ S.i.S. spin everything without pretension as our resident DJ's.

The party is FREE and brought to you by Future Sounds, RM64, BMI, Buzzbands.LA, Stranded In Stereo, WOXY, The Owl Mag and Spin Earth.

3 CLUBS is located on the corner of Vine and Santa Monica Blvd.

TONIGHT @ SOUTHPAW - THE RUMBLE: BROOKLYN RETURNS

THE RUMBLE: BROOKLYN has a line up for December that is like an early Christmas present to you. This Wednesday's party features a group of bands that have 2010 to open up and blossom and will continue to give us great music for years to come.

Headlining is the mighty MARIANNE, the Brooklyn based, Japanese psychedelic freak-out that must be seen to believe. Think ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE meets BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW and you're getting close.

Supporting will be THE BLOODSUGARS, and anyone that's heard a note of the single, "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" knows the potential of this Brooklyn band.

Rough Trade's SHE KEEPS BEES delivers the third Brooklyn artist on the bill, riding in on a glowing review in Mojo and songs like "Gimme" make you want more more more.

Opening up is a real treat, someone we've been trying to get close to for over a year now, and up from Brisbane, Australia comes VIOLENT SOHO. We heard "Jesus Stole My Girlfriend", in all it's Kobain-like glory and Gil Norton-styled nob twistin'.

The Rumble: Brooklyn is a collaboration between Future Sounds, DEFALCO PRESENTS, SOUND FIX RECORDS and WOXY.COM, but this month we've added a new partner that we're thrilled about - THE MUSEBOX.

SOUTHPAW is located at 125 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Party starts @ 8pm.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES - THE RUMBLE: LA @ 3 CLUBS

In the highly competitive season of Holiday shows, benefits and parties, tonight in LA delivers plenty of options. Options are nice, but THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES is mandatory. You must come to this show, please.

What's on tap this month is a four band line up, and a true battle of LA vs. SD. The upstart San Diego, as you know and as we've reported previously, is coming strong these days with quality band after band. Tonight they are represented in a 'The Warriors' style battle royale by TAPE DECK MOUNTAIN, the heralded buzzing act that Pitchfork loves, and the Arcade Fire-like power of THE DROWNING MEN. Los Angeles steps forward with the Pretenders-meets-Belly rock and roll of ALL WRONG & THE PLANS CHANGE and first up will be the uber-creative, EVAN VOYTAS. The ladies that call themselves DJ S.i.S. will be there making all the boys stare at them on the turntables.

Joining The Rumble: Los Angeles family of partners is BUZZBANDS.LA. We've read Kevin's column for years at the Times, now as the full-fledged BB.LA blog, he's out every night reporting back on what we should've have gone out to see. Welcome brother.

The Rumble: Los Angeles is FREE and it's at 3 Clubs in Hollywood - on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Vine. Don't spend too much time in the Army surplus store, get in early for EV.

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCICO TONIGHT @ HARLOT

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO TURNS 2 YEARS OLD TONIGHT?
Two years???? WTF?

How did it happen? The little party meant to bring together the Bay area indie rock community lasted two years? It started as an indie dance party, then added one band each party, then up to two acts performing, and the future looks like three bands + DJ's.

Harlot has been great to THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO for two years and Jacek, you are the man for taking care of every band, DJ and Rumble attendee. Watch our for those bar stools late night Drunkula....

For the 2 year party we had to come up with the cream of the crop, and FITZ & THE TANTRUMS provide that very thing. Think HALL & OATES meets ROBERT PALMER meets THIN WHITE DUKE era-Bowie. Add a big splash of Motown and you're getting close to describing FITZ and his wrecking crew as they do the entire West Coast run of RUMBLE dates in October, from Seattle to now Las Vegas.

Listen to the entire Fitz & The Tantrums EP, "Songs For A Break-Up Vol. 1" at http://www.fitzandthetantrums.com

The Rumble: SF wouldn't be the Rumble: SF if it didn't spotlight a band from the Bay area that is also destined for greatness. This month our collective team of partners have cooked up the mighty MAN/MIRACLE from Oakland. You must hear their anthemic "Pushing and Shoving".

Need more? How about special guest DJ's like AARON AXELSEN from POPSCENE/LIVE 105 and DJ TOM THUMP, the guy that digs so deep in the crates his fingernails are black.
Couple those two with resident badasss, DJ BAGEL TED, and you've got yourself a celebration.

The party is FREE if you RSVP here
http://sonicliving.com/therumble23
It's $5 if that's not your thing and you like spending money.

Harlot is located at 46 Minna Street

TONIGHT @ HARLOT - THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO

The seven-piece dynamo that is UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA are driving through Weed, CA in a fury to reach San Francisco this evening after killing it in Portland last evening at The Rumble: Portland. Tonight they cram into Harlot for THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO and we're still not sure how they'll all fit, but they'll probably take over the dance floor as well in more ways than one. Joining them is the incredible sounds of PANCE PARTY, which you might as well call a dance party, because you add DJ AMPLIVE (Zion I) and DJ AARON AXELSEN (Popscene/Live 105) and you won't be able to sit down.

The party is FREE is you RSVP here >
http://sonicliving.com/therumble22
If not, or if you wait until 5pm, it'll be $5. Money well spent for this line up.

TONIGHT IN NEW YORK - THE RUMBLE: NY @ FONTANA'S

THE RUMBLE: NEW YORK
Wednesday, June 17
Fontana's
105 Eldridge Street, New York NY / (212) 334 - 6740
(B or D to Grand St; F, J, M, Z to Delancey)
Show 8:30 pm / $7
Featuring Neighbors, The Royal Chains and Pinky

Summer is officially here and why not come kick off a season of great music at this month’s Rumble N.Y. party at Fontana’s this Wednesday, June 17. This month’s line-up offers a diverse range of musical stylings ranging from grunge pop to classic foot-tapping rock tunes.

Neighbors, guitarist Noah Stitleman’s solo project beckons references to Built to Spill with drawn out arrangements and melodies. Primarily recorded in Stitleman’s Brooklyn apartment, The Neighbors EP, “The Famous Torero” was completed in March 2008. Neighbors is a softer alternative to Stitleman’s other band Jacksonknife with songs like “That’s Enough” and “I’m Building I’m on Fire.”
Recently given honorable mention in The L Magazine’s “8 NYC Bands You Need to Hear,”

Called “gritty gusty music,” by NY Cool. The Royal Chains maintain pop-worthy melodies paired with tight rock beats. Singer/Guitarist Adam Roddick and bassist Dan Lawley hail from Nashville, giving The Royal Chains sound a Southern tinge combined with East Coast rock sensibilities. Their Debut EP "Crime Scene" featuring No Love in Your Punches is available now.

Brooklyn based Pinky recall 1990’s grunge with singer Tim Lynch’s vocals. Fresh off a SWSX showcase, it’s easy to tell that Pinky is influenced by the Sub Pop catalog, particularly on songs like “Autumn in New York.”

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: THE RUMBLE: LA WITH BAND OF SKULLS

If tonight's live performances are anywhere near last night's in SF, those of you who aren't at Green Day will witness the real show of the night in Los Angeles. You've heard us blabber on and on about BAND OF SKULLS, or current obsession, but it was APTEKA last night that gave the champions a run for their money. They stored up all their energy on the drive from Chicago and brought the A-game. Joining the party this evening from San Francisco is FRENCH MIAMI, a band who's self-titled album is amazing. We've got some other newcomers to the evening at 3 Clubs in Hollywood, DJ's S.I.S. hit the decks and I'm told you'll want to stare at them all night instead of dance. What we have here tonight is three bands that are amazing live performers.

Guess what? Tonight's RUMBLE: LA is FREE to get in. So catch Band Of Skulls before they have to get up early and perform on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Get personal for a change in a city of cars.

Who's playing? RADEMACHER bring their indie rock magic to the 3 Clubs in Hollywood, playing songs off their 'Stunts' album and some new surprises. All the way from Austin, Texas, THE FRONTIER BROTHERS. Not sure if you heard their WOXY Lounge Acts session from SXSW but these guys killed it live. Finally, Oslo's SIMON SAYS NO bring us Norway's slice of shoegaze tonight after having closed out the Rumble: San Francisco last night. As always, the twin-towers, DJ's MiCHAEL, will handle the music duties throughout the night - first band hits the stage at 9:15pm.

TONIGHT THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO @ HARLOT

Our posse hooked up with THE BAY BRIDGED for tonight's RUMBLE: SF at Harlot (46 Minna Street) and they linked us to LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION - a Bay area band that should be showing up everywhere soon enough. Norway's SIMON SAYS NO are also experiencing Haight Street at this moment, gearing up for their late night set this evening - I saw a Twitter from them that they were knee-deep in a drum circle on Hippie Hill already this morning. Drink specials for the first hour and a half (doors at 8pm) - bands hit the stage at 11pm, and DJ VIN SOL is gracing the party. Resident DJ BAGEL TED, who's kicking off his new radio program, At Home With DJ Unfit For Work, today at Noon (Pacific) on Bagel Radio today - tune in here > http://www.live365.com/stations/leibowt?play - will also be spinning the indie dance tunes you come out each month for.

LINE UP ANNOUNCED FOR APRIL'S THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES

Next Thursday night in Los Angeles, THE RUMBLE: LA returns for the April installment at 3 Clubs with three great bands and our resident DJ's MiCHAEL, fresh from their SXSW trip where they killed it at HOT FREAKS and the PURE VOLUME closing night party. RADEMACHER, a band we've loved since stumbling on them in July of 2005 are finally getting the credit and attention they deserve, and are headlining the party. In from Austin, Texas are THE FRONTIER BROTHERS, a band we're insanely lucky to have scored for the party. If you haven't seen this band, or heard their brilliant release, "Space Punk Starlet", do so. Here's a sample, "Kickstand Woman" (mp3). The third band is a Future Sounds band, SIMON SAYS NO from Oslo, Norway. They'll be coming in on fumes from the Rumble: SF on Wednesday night, watch out for Simon the guitarist, there's something special happening with that guy.

Download "Sleeping Heart" from Simon Says No (mp3)

If you haven't been out to a Rumble party, what's wrong with you? This isn't a hipster night, it's about supporting up and coming bands, surrounded by people that seem like old friends you left behind in your home towns before moving to a town full of VIP lists and fair weather friends. The 3 Clubs is a dirty/dark drinking hole that's absolutely perfect for rock and roll. The tiny backroom where the band's play is intimate and you'll get a closer look at the artists than you probably bargain for.

It's free to get in if you RSVP here > http://sonicliving.com/therumble-LA
It's $5 at the door if you just show up. Thanks to Ivan Minsloff for our poster this month!
