TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: FITZ & THE TANTRUMS KICK OFF THEIR SPACELAND RESIDENCY

Tonight begins the month-long residency by a group of individuals that are family to us > FITZ & THE TANTRUMS. With a touch of jetlag from doing shows in NYC, Philly and DC last weekend, they are back in action to hold it down in Silverlake at Spaceland every Thursday in June. If you fell for the EP, "Songs For A Break-Up Vol.1", then wait until you hear their Dangerbird Records debut, "Pickin' Up The Pieces", much of which they'll be playing live this evening. Grab a copy of 944 Magazine this month, as the lovely Noelle is featured.

New York friends it's time for some soul on a Friday night. Start off your Memorial Day weekend right before you head out to the beaches and see FITZ & THE TANTRUMS tonight @ The Mercury Lounge.

In case you fell asleep and missed it, Fitz & Co are on the quiet takeover of late. FIRST EVER THE RUMBLE: LAS VEGAS HAPPENS TONIGHT @ THE ARUBA

Vegas? Yeah, you heard it right, our little Rumble parties have now crept to Sin City to THE ARUBA where FITZ & THE TANTRUMS will finish their week long run of Rumbles that started in Seattle and have blazed a trail of new disciples in it's path. That puts us in seven US cities a month now, and we're gunnin' for 12 by March 2010.

Future Sounds has teamed up with Las Vegas' NEON REVERB, people that know how to throw a party for the inaugural Vegas Rumble. In case you were wondering, this won't be your typical big casino, tourist party, this is deep in the heart of the Vegas that people that live and sleep there hang out.

We took the lead from NR on some local acts that are now on our radar, and A CROWD OF SMALL ADVENTURES will headline, and THE MAD CAPS will open up the event. The special guest DJ is REX DART at this FREE party that also has a built in after-party.

The Rumble: Las Vegas starts tonight, but the talk already started:

THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO TONIGHT @ THE CASBAH

San Diego, you're about to feel the aftershock of The Rumble in Los Angeles, as the line up that smoked the 3 Clubs in Hollywood is making its way down to The Casbah for THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO tonight. Local legend, LADY DOTTIE & THE DIAMONDS, LA's FITZ & THE TANTRUMS and Seattle's THE BLAKES combine for a night for the ages.

Special DJ set by local music guru, Tim Pyles.

We're also thrilled to add two new partners to THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO this month, in the shape of CITYBEAT and SDDIALEDIN, to go with Indigenous, Trumer Pils, Casbah, M Theory Music, and WOXY.

Mention TRUMER PILS in your Facebook, blog, or Twitter updates about The Rumble and win $100 to Starlite.

THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES TONIGHT @ 3 CLUBS

THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES on Thursday at 3 Clubs is going to be outrageous!

It's the homecoming of FITZ & THE TANTRUMS, fresh off his tour where he played Red Rocks and The Greek Theatre and heads into KRCW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Fitz & Co are doing ALL of the Rumble West Coast parties in October.

We found the perfect bands to accompany Fitz for this month's Rumble - from San Diego it's the dynamo that is LADY DOTTIE & THE DIAMONDS. Dotty is like SHARON JONES on speed, and delivers music with The Diamonds that storms like monsoon season.

From Seattle is THE BLAKES! That's right, they are on the bill with a brand new record that sounds like the NUGGETS box set squeezed out a baby and out popped 'Souvenir'. We've already watched them destroy the Rumble: Seattle and the Rumble: Portland, now they take on LA and San Diego as this trio does a round show together this week.

Those lovely ladies, DJ S.i.S. return as our resident DJ's and the party is FREE!

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCICO TONIGHT @ HARLOT

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO TURNS 2 YEARS OLD TONIGHT?
Two years???? WTF?

How did it happen? The little party meant to bring together the Bay area indie rock community lasted two years? It started as an indie dance party, then added one band each party, then up to two acts performing, and the future looks like three bands + DJ's.

Harlot has been great to THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO for two years and Jacek, you are the man for taking care of every band, DJ and Rumble attendee. Watch our for those bar stools late night Drunkula....

For the 2 year party we had to come up with the cream of the crop, and FITZ & THE TANTRUMS provide that very thing. Think HALL & OATES meets ROBERT PALMER meets THIN WHITE DUKE era-Bowie. Add a big splash of Motown and you're getting close to describing FITZ and his wrecking crew as they do the entire West Coast run of RUMBLE dates in October, from Seattle to now Las Vegas.

Listen to the entire Fitz & The Tantrums EP, "Songs For A Break-Up Vol. 1" at http://www.fitzandthetantrums.com

The Rumble: SF wouldn't be the Rumble: SF if it didn't spotlight a band from the Bay area that is also destined for greatness. This month our collective team of partners have cooked up the mighty MAN/MIRACLE from Oakland. You must hear their anthemic "Pushing and Shoving".

Need more? How about special guest DJ's like AARON AXELSEN from POPSCENE/LIVE 105 and DJ TOM THUMP, the guy that digs so deep in the crates his fingernails are black.
Couple those two with resident badasss, DJ BAGEL TED, and you've got yourself a celebration.

The party is FREE if you RSVP here
http://sonicliving.com/therumble23
It's $5 if that's not your thing and you like spending money.

Harlot is located at 46 Minna Street

THE RUMBLE: PORTLAND TONIGHT @ HOLOCENE

The October edition of THE RUMBLE: PORTLAND @ Holocene is one for the ages, and all ages, spanning genres and era's.

Headlining the Rumble will be BLUE SKIES FOR BLACK HEARTS, the Portland band that sounds like they broke out of Nuggets-era British Invasion rock. Jangly, jingly, great pop rock and roll.

Coming up from Los Angeles is the mighty FITZ & THE TANTRUMS, a band you've been hearing on WOXY, KEXP, and KCRW often recently with their white boy soul-Hall & Oates meets Robert Palmer meets Motown party sound.

You know it's a stellar bill when your opener is a star about to happen - SALLIE FORD & THE SOUND OUTSIDE. This is throwback fantasy mixed with intelligent lyrics and shouts out to Sunny Day Real Estate. Embrace Sallie, she'll be the world's soon enough.

The party is FREE and all your friends like Pampelmoose, Cravedog and Music Millennium will be there, as well as WOXY.COM and Future Sounds.

THE RUMBLE: SEATTLE TONIGHT @ THE CROCODILE

After taking Labor Day off in September, THE RUMBLE: SEATTLE is back at the Crocodile tonight for another FREE night of amazing music.

Headlining will be WILD ORCHID CHILDREN in all their garage/punk fury!

Coming up from Los Angeles is the mighty FITZ & THE TANTRUMS, a band you've been hearing on KEXP often recently with their white boy soul-Hall & Oates meets Robert Palmer meets Motown party sound.

Kicking off the party and setting the tone will be THE SATELLITE 4, the band that sounds like STAX RECORDS in the good ole days.

Guest DJ's Valentine & Carly of UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA will be keeping things in constant motion all night, as all three bands know how to keep you dancing.

Future Sounds has teamed up with The Stranger, Line Out, Easy Street Records, The Wig and WOXY.COM on this event to showcase bands we all love.

Did we mention it's FREE? Doors are at 8pm.

NEW (OLD) SOUNDS: THE SATELLITE 4

THE SATELLITE 4
http://www.myspace.com/thesatellite4
Hometown: Seattle

Monday night we celebrate our second RUMBLE: SEATTLE party at The Crocodile. With the help of our Seattle based partners, we've curated a FREE party on Monday night that is going to keep everyone dancing from start to finish. WILD ORCHID CHILDREN headline, with FITZ & THE TANTRUMS and special guest DJ's Valentine and Carly of UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA.

Kicking off the night is a band I've been hearing about from friends in Seattle that really know music, and I've been hearing about this almost Stax-like soul band called THE SATELLITE 4. I had the opportunity to talk with the band and put together a quick interview, here goes, your introduction to an incredible live act....

FS: Southerners in Seattle?? How does that work out? For someone new to the Satellite 4, can you give us a brief history and how you all ended up in Seattle?

S4: We love Southern music and culture, and the band is obviously modeled on the MGs and the Meters.
I'm actually from LA, but went to Bellingham High and have had some great years in this area. I worked in Nashville 4 years and NY for 1 year. Jeff Conlin (keys) is from the DC area, David Hudson (drums) is from Vegas. Eric Daw (guitar) is from Idaho.

FS: I noticed on your Myspace profile that you make a point of clarifying that this is not a neo-soul unit, but an old school, Stax/Motown throwdown, leaning towards the instrumental gods that are Booker T. & The MG’s.

S4: We really love how the old records have so much charisma and character, a heavy mood and a strong beat.

FS: When push comes to shove, are you a Motown fan or a Stax fan?

S4: All four of us would say Stax/Hi, but all four of us love Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Jacksons, Jr.Walker or the New Orleans stuff too.

FS: Your set looks to mix a fair amount of covers with some originals. Who picks the covers? Do you collect vinyl? Can you list three artists from the past that influence the Satellite 4 sound the most?

S4: We are all record nuts and collectors of instruments etc.
The difference with us is that we play them instead of seal them away in a vault.
We all write and contribute stuff constantly at rehearsals, our newer set is mostly originals, but we cut our teeth on Booker T numbers.

FS: I didn’t realize that the Johnny Horn that I’ve been emailing with is the host of KEXP’s Preachin’ The Blues. Damn man, you’re a guy that loves and knows his music. Have you always been in radio? For those that don’t live in Seattle or are too lazy to stream the station online, can you briefly describe a typical playlist on your show?

S4: Vandy has told me good things about you too-
I have been doing music in many capacities for years, morphing as DJ, musician, producer and engineer to make a living from an ugly business- I have sat behind a desk with a necktie, and I've worked for the Forest Service, but I keep coming back to money-making musical projects. My claim to fame is having a cut in The Sopranos.

FS: Is Charles Van Zandt a permanent member of the S4 or is this just collaboration a la Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings?

S4: Charles lives down in Tyler, Texas and did a bunch of recording and gigging with us. His nephew, Tobias Flowers, is a close friend of mine and we wrote some stuff for him and backed him live with the Satellite 4.

FS: Are The Satellite 4 a hobby/passion or are there plans to stretch your legs and hit the road on a tour? Any albums in the works and if so, how does a soul band like yours approach the new world order of releasing records in a digital world?

S4: We've all gigged a lot with any number of different lineups over time. Our booking is getting stronger and we will do all those familiar places this fall and winter. Selling music works best AT THE GIG, and we have the obvious cds and shirts. We are about to do some 45s for the heads out there.

FS: Going back to a bunch of southerners living in the Pacific Northwest, are you able to find food that smacks of home? Where can I go for a great southern dinner in Seattle?

S4: Southern Kitchen in Tacoma is very good, and there are some good BBQ spots out on the south end of Seattle by me like Roy's. The Mexican trucks along Rainier are mostly great too.

FS: Thank you for your time and for playing The Rumble: Seattle!

The Satellite 4 open up the FREE Rumble: Seattle party at The Crocodile on October 5th.
