THE RUMBLE WEST COAST BANDS ANNOUNCED!

LA’S CHASING KINGS TO HOLD COURT ON JUNE RUMBLE TOUR

If you’ve been reading this blog at all over the past 6 months, you’re more than aware of our devotion to CHASING KINGS, so much so that we’ve tapped them to headline the West Coast leg of THE RUMBLE JUNE.

Named one of the Top 20 Indie Bands in LA by The Deli Magazine, they’ve already shared the stage with Sea Wolf, conquered SXSW, where they played our parties as well as the Levi’s/Fader Fort and have already snagged a spot up at the upcoming Also I Like To Rock summer series at The Hammer Museum. Comprised of four childhood friends, Matt Schwartz, Drew Beck, Mike Goldman and Nick Sandler, CHASING KINGS ooze a genuine enthusiasm for playing and crafting memorable melodies and harmonies that transcend whatever musical trend is penetrating the industry with The Pop Stereo calling them a “soaring breath of fresh air.”

Schwartz continues to draw comparisons to Elvis Costello and Britt Daniel with vocal and key skills well beyond his years, especially on “Dark Sunglasses.” Attracting the attention of bloggers and industry heavyweights including Tony Berg, who produced their six-song debut EP The Current State of Our Future last summer, Chasing Kings are on to something with their infectious piano laden indie pop. We can’t say it enough, they are a must see.

Kicking it off at THE RUMBLE SEATTLE at Havana Social Club on Monday June 7th, CHASING KINGS will be joined by Tacoma’s MOTOPONY. Led by Daniel Blue MOTOPONY are being compared to Broken Social Scene and Wilco. KEXP’s Richard Johnson has already jumped on this one, featuring “Seer” in his Song of the Day Podcast and recording a live session with the band back in January. TRUMER PILS specials all night!

Tuesday June 8th, CHASING KINGS will head down to Holocene for THE RUMBLE PORTLAND to play with PRIORY and BLOOD BEACH. PRIORY is a PDX four-piece calling themselves spacious folk rockers with touches of classic rock and soul with their debut scheduled to come out in June. Track “Devil vs. Heater” is sprawling number peppered with three part acappella harmonies.
BLOOD BEACH is a haunting shoegazy lo-fi outfit originally from Texas, calling Portland home and recently opened for Smith Westerns at Backspace. Velvet Underground combined with heavy distortion, BLOOD BEACH are right on point with lo-fi psych rock trend. With TRUMER PILS specials all night, THE RUMBLE PDX easily trumps Taco Tuesday.

On Wednesday June 9th we’ll head down to Milk for THE RUMBLE SF, where LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION and CITY LIGHT will share the bill with CHASING KINGS.
Local trio Leopold & His Fiction, an act that’s long been on our radar with their southern infused rock folk meets fuzzy blues. Led by Detroit native, Daniel James, Leopold & His Fiction are the Black Keys meets The White Stripes, but better. Their recently released single, “Golden Friends” is a piece of looming 70’s freak folk goodness. With their release, Ain’t No Surprise touted as one of the Thirty-Two Greatest San Francisco Bay Area Albums of 2009 by our friends at The Bay Bridged, LAHF are Rumble ready.

CITY LIGHT, another Bay area band are Postal Service and Aqueduct esque electro rockers and Noise Pop fav. Their release Burned Out Bright (Banter Media) is full of bright yet distorted electronic soundscapes like “Someday Maybe” and has already caught the attention of out friends over at The Bay Bridged. Resident DJ, BAGEL TED will be there spinning throughout the night. RSVP at Sonic Living.

Thursday June 10th we’ll venture to 3 Clubs for THE RUMBLE LOS ANGELES where CHASING KINGS are likely to pack the house on their home turf. Also joining us are YAWN, an experimental indie pop act from Chicago. Think shades of Animal Collective with afro beat percussion and vocals in the vein of Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koening. “Toys” is a danceworthy tribal jam off their Pitchfork certified self-released EP.

Rounding out the night are FOSTER THE PEOPLE, an LA based act being called the next MGMT (pre Congratulations). The brainchild of TV composer Mark Foster, Foster the People, are garnering major attention from NylonTV to London’s The Guardian. Their track “Pumped Up Kicks” has been branded the song of the summer by Black Book Mag and with a whistling hook that rivals Peter Bjorn & John’s “Young Folks” and The Drums “Let’s Go Surfing” it’s easy to agree. We’re already anticipating the dance party that’s about to occur in the backroom, so Foster the People are most definitely that band you’ll be glad you caught before they blow up…so don’t miss out.

Then Saturday June 12th were back in San Diego at Bar Pink, for what’s fast becoming one of the most best nights of The Rumble tour, with a constant stream of SD bands that never disappoint and June’s no different with MAREN PARUSEL and DRUG WARS sharing the bill with CHASING KINGS.

German songstress, MAREN PARUSEL’s reflective indie pop is melodic and beautifully orchestrated, especially “Dear Love” off their Dear Love/Days in Universe 7 inch (Single Screen Records). Formerly of Wild Weeked, an all female punk band, Parusel’s new keyboard based sound has been getting attention with a San Diego Music Award nomination for Best New Artist last summer and capturing the attention of Kim Fowley at SXSW this year.

Dirty, loud garage rock from SD best describe, DRUG WARS round out the night. Called “the best kind of post-hardcore-punk-rock to listen to” by 7 Inches, this four piece are gathering buzz even across the pond with Collective Zine UK taking notice of their 7 inch 9846 (Grizzly Records).

We'll be announcing line-ups for The Rumbles in Las Vegas, Austin and New York soon.

SF’S THE FEROCIOUS FEW HEADLINING THE RUMBLE TOUR IN MAY IN SUPPORT OF JUICES

The first week of May is upon us and THE RUMBLE is back with week of shows guaranteed to stretch Cinco de Mayo throughout the entire week. As usual the party’s always free!

THE FEROCIOUS FEW will be joining us this month on the entire THE RUMBLE WEST COAST TOUR in support of their staggering debut release Juices (Birdman). The brainchild of SF troubadour Francisco Fernandez and Daniel Aguilar, this blues rock duo are a return to the hallmarks of classic Americana, with visceral, raw lyrics accompanied by frenzied guitars and bashing drums. After a sweltering set in Austin at the Bay Area Takeover Party this March, THE FEROCIOUS FEW have been racking up the accolades, with the New York Times blog labeling the pair as one of their SXSW Standouts.

We’ve been lucky enough to see them live (back in November they tore up the small Blue Palms Stage at the Hollywood Brew Fest), so we can attest that their show is a serious force of zealous energy that is really indescribable. With Blurt Magazine calling Juices “the best debut album of 2010 only 4 months in,” this act is set for big things. The single “Porcelain Doll” is piece of riotous soul rock. While, THE FEROCIOUS FEW are known for their impromptu performances on the street corner of 16th and Mission, but if the buzz radiating off Juices is any indication they will soon be shucking the pavement for larger venues very soon; so the chance to see them in these intimate settings won’t last long.

Starting the week off in Washington on Monday May 3rd, THE RUMBLE SEATTLE kicks off the tour at Havana Social Club. Seattle collective THE HEAD AND THE HEART are set to open the night with their harmony laden indie folk. Call them the American version of Mumford & Sons (a bonafide staple at FS HQ). Their track, “Sounds Like Hallelujah” is an epic beautifully orchestrated ballad, heavy on the violins and Josiah Johnson’s soaring vocals.

Then Tuesday May 4th we’ll head down to our Portland home, Holocene, where two local acts will share the bill with THE FEROCIOUS FEW. First up is 1776, a quartet that look as if they were plucked off the cover of Rolling Stone in the 60’s with perfectly shaggy mops of hair and vintage to match. Recently signed to Beat The World Records (The Dandy Warhols label), 1776 are young (most of them underage) and earnest classic rockers in the vein of MC5.

Portland Mercury darlings, MONARQUES round out the night, as this seven piece are set to bring their sunny, 1950’s inspired indie pop. The creation of Oh Captain, My Captain's Josh Spacek, MONARQUES’ dreamy confections are reminiscent of early Morning Benders with the added bonus of female backing vocals.

Wednesday May 5th, Francisco and co will head down to their home turf for THE RUMBLE SF at Café du Nord for the Juices album release party and probably one of the best Cinco de Mayo celebrations going on in the city that night. Tequila plus Trumer Pils equals the ultimate party.

Joining us for dates in SF and LA, are MISSISSIPPI MAN, a band we’ve loved since they released The Snake Oil Salesman EP last spring. This LA based quintet are making legit folk pop, full of blues infused harmonies with David Knight and Luke Messimer’s vocals recalling an early Neil Young. Touted as one of the Best Bands of 2009 by our friends at The Deli LA, we couldn’t be more excited to have MISSISSIPPI MAN on the bill for these two nights.

Bay Area favorites, THE SERMON will also be on hand for the fiesta. Serious dark dirty garage with blistering guitars and tinges of 60’s soul, plus a healthy dose of The Stooges; it’s no wonder The Owl Mag have been loving THE SERMON. If their live show is anything like we’ve been hearing, their set is bound to be pretty amazing. As always, resident DJ BAGeL Ted will be spinning tunes all night. RSVP at Sonic Living.

Thursday May 6th The RUMBLE LA will head back home to 3 Clubs, where another local act and Aquarium Drunkard fav, DIRT DRESS will open the night. Classic garage rock at it’s best (loud and thunderous); this three piece earned a spot at Waved Out this past March with bloggers saying, “Dirt Dress shows us what punk rock might have been, almost was, and, apparently, still can be.” With buzz like this, you’ll have to come check out DIRT DRESS.

As usual we head down south for THE RUMBLE SAN DIEGO on Saturdays to our North Park dwelling, Bar Pink on May 8th with a killer line up of SD bands joining THE FEROCIOUS FEW. First up is our newest obsession, LITTLE DEADMAN, a local act signed to our friends over at Single Screen Records (Beaters, Heavy Hawaii). LITTLE DEADMAN evoke early Strokes with a hint of Yesayer. Just check out their track “Shooting Seagulls” and you’ll hear why we can’t get enough of them.

THE KABBS are dirty Southern tinged garage rock by way of North Park, with the help of Brian Clinebell’s vocals. A perfect melding of psychedelic and blues influences, “Golden and Blue” is a must listen. It’s no wonder local SD press, like CityBeat are calling their sound, “catchy garage-pop without the lo-fi hipster pretense.” Local DJ Cory Casey will be on the decks all night!

The parties are FREE and are brought to you in each city by the collective of Rumble partners that come together to support indie music. Stay tuned for information on The Rumble: Las Vegas, The Rumble: Austin and The Rumble: New York coming soon......

PEPPER RABBIT TO HEADLINE WEST COAST RUMBLE

So we’ve given you two weeks to rest from the hangovers of SXSW, THE RUMBLE is ready to unleash a week of parties up and down the West Coast with line-ups that are sure to represent. As usual the party’s always free!

LA’s own PEPPER RABBIT will be headlining all of The Rumble West Coast dates and we couldn’t be more excited to have this three piece from Silver Lake. Not to be confused with the myriad of other hare themed bands (Frightened Rabbit, White Rabbit), PEPPER RABBIT were on the short list of bands to watch at SXSW and from what we’re hearing they didn’t disappoint.

Led by Xander Singh and Luc Laurent, PEPPER RABBIT are drawing comparisons to early Grizzly Bear with a slow building somber psych-pop heavy on the instrumentals. “None Shall Sleep” is all haunting melodies and aching vocals, while “Red Wine” is slow building groggy gem. With an endorsement from fellow Eastsiders made good, Local Natives, a feature in Under the Radar and the release of two separate EP’s last year, Clicks and Shakes; Pepper Rabbit are a must see before they blow up.

Kicking it off in the Pacific Northwest, THE RUMBLE SEATTLE at Havana Social Club on Monday April 5th, Pepper Rabbit will be joined by local favs THE GLOBES. Currently receiving serious love from Barsuk and Seattle bloggers alike, with Reverb calling THE GLOBES a “thing of budding greatness.

THE GLOBES will also be joining us as we head down to Oregon on Tuesday April 6th for THE RUMBLE PORTLAND. Portland darlings, THE GOLDEN HOURS, are set to open the night; led by Eliza Sohn, this foursome have been making garage rock that locals can’t get enough of. Their acclaimed 2009 Spooky EP is full fuzzed out guitar pop that could easily give Best Coast a run of their money.

Venturing down to the bay area on Wednesday April 7th, THE RUMBLE SF is sure to cure any midweek slump with a line-up of local scene makers set to bring the party to new location at Milk Bar. VEIL VEIL VANISH and SILVER SWANS will share the bill; both bring their brand of electro-tinged pop. VEIL VEIL VANISH, a gothy shoegaze outfit is currently riding high on a slew of favorable reviews for their debut, Change in the Neon Light with tinges of The Cure. SILVER SWANS, the side project of FS fav LoveLikeFire vocalist Ann Yu (and Jon Waters) is part LaRoux, part The Knife. Yu’s vocal prowess combined with beats crafted ala Ladytron, result in dreamy dance pop confections. As always, Resident DJ, BAGEL TED will be there spinning throughout the night. RSVP at Sonic Living.

On Thursday April 8th we’ll bring it back home to 3 Clubs for THE RUMBLE LA with Pepper Rabbit playing on their home turf. Journeying all the way from Down Under (by way of NY) we have Sydney troubadour JACK LADDER. Jack (aka Tim Rogers), ex-bassist of Expatriate, has already received a ton of acclaim down south, winning the 2008 AMP Red Bull Prize for Best Album for Love is Gone (Spunk) and opening for Aussie super group Wolfmother. Standing at 6’5, tall and broody, JACK LADDER is like a crooner from years past, with vintage inspired sounds incorporating the best of early blues, folk and rock. We can just imagine how Ladder and company will tear up the dimly lit intimate backroom of 3 Clubs.

Also on the bill are Fullerton natives, REGRETS & BRUNETTES; an OC band we’ve been buzzing about for quite some time. Their track “Uh-Oh,” an infectious piece of jangley rock that has been on repeat around FS HQ for the past couple of months. Classic indie rock coupled with sharp writing, this quartet has been drawing favorable attention from local bloggers including The Deli LA and Buzz Bands LA.

We’ll then head further down the coast on Saturday April 10th for THE RUMBLE SAN DIEGO to our North Park home, Bar Pink. We’ve got two SD acts, WRITER and BLACK MAMBA set to pack the tiny walls of Bar Pink. Our love of SD bands really knows no bounds and both of these bands popped up on our radar last September, and needless to say we couldn’t be more amped. WRITER, just back from their SXSW tour with December Rumble vets, Tape Deck Mountain have been mainstays on the scene for a while with their gritty rock sound. Comprised of brothers Andy and Jayme Ralph, WRITER are about to be big. Led by Aimee Sanchez, BLACK MAMBA is the Mazzy Star for 2010 with ethereal, moody piano driven pop. Coming off the 2009 Golden Birthday EP released last year, this group is making lush, airy songs that can’t be missed. JAMUEL SAXON (Jamuel Saxon is made up of Keith Milgaten and Aimee Sanchez (Black Mamba) and Andy and James Ralph (Writer). They all will be collabingto DJ that night) will also be on hand for special DJ set throughout the night.

CAUGHT LIVE- THE RUMBLE LA: MARCH

Thanks to everyone who came out to 3 Clubs Thursday night for The Rumble LA. San Diego's BEATERS treated those early-comers to a solid set blending snotty, swirling bedroom punk with tribal-like cacophony and a room-filling wall-of-sound crutch that was almost impossible to ignore. No wonder standouts "Fishage" and "White Hate" have already become FS staples.

TWIN TIGERS showed the packed back room a little something about this whole shoegaze-laced-guitar thing that the the blogosphere seems to be paddling through for air these days. Just expecting great things from this outfit is one thing, but seeing their sound grow to fill venue walls in the future seems like a near certainty for this Athens, GA about-to-break foursome.

Night-closers RUMSPRINGA near-lived up to their tag as "LA's best-kept secret" with a guitar/drum take on blues-soaked, riffed-out rock tunes that oddly-enough got most of the first few rows flailing like a Prince set (no doubt thanks to 808 bleeps from a sometimes third member) while the rest of the room (myself included) wondered just how they haven't ever seen the band before.

THE RUMBLE WEST COAST DATES ANNOUNCED - TWIN TIGERS PLAY THROUGH

It seems that it was just yesterday we we're knee deep in Hologram Jams (out now on Fat Possum btw) from last month's RUMBLE band, the mighty JAGUAR LOVE. We had a terrific time with that circuit and seeing the room go wild each time the duo roared into office favorites "Postcards and Red Wine" or "I Started a Fire." The response to the JL love couldn't have been better and before I tell you about March info, I want to extend a HUGE thanks to anyone that came out to any of the dates, all our sponsors and all the venues! Let's move onto MARCH!

We have so many RUMBLE parties in March that we need to roll them out systematically all the way into our 4 Rumble parties at SXSW in Austin (including the Super Rumble night party).

It all starts though in Seattle on Monday night at the Havana Social Club with two quality SEA based acts:
HAIR ENVELOPE & NIGHTMARE AIR. We've spun both of these bands heavily on the FS radio show on WOXY, from Hair Envelope's brilliant "Largo Lagos' to the spin-off act sporting 2 members of FILM SCHOOL - Nightmare Air. If you've heard 'Who Who Lies Who Down' you understand what force DD and crew puts into each track, and by the way, that is Mr Dupuis on vocals.

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO next Wednesday has the subtitle of being the official 'Noise Pop Hangover Show', because NP2010 has taken over the Bay Area this week and weekend, and if you haven't had enough great music, we offer up this incredible line-up:
There is no way to hide our absolute LOVE for LILOFEE. We put out their 7" vinyl for the single, 'Runaway' at the end of 2009, and are set to drop their second single, 'Destroy Me' (+a video + a remix) on Future Sounds Records in March. Stay tuned for more info on that release.

STRIPMALL ARCHITECTURE we were just introduced to but after listening to the Myspace songs and vibing their influences, we're instant fans. Here's what the SF WEEKLY had to say:
"Does the mention of a band somewhere in-between Sigur Ros and the Cocteau Twins make those little hairs on the back of your neck tingle? If so, you owe it to yourself to check for Stripmall Architecture's show." Resident DJ, BAGEL TED, will handle the DJ duties.

That leads us to TWIN TIGERS from Athens, Georgia, a band that will be playing through the circuit starting in SF, into LA, San Diego, and will be playing THE RUMBLE: LAS VEGAS that will be a part of the NEON REVERB MUSIC FESTIVAL on the 12th. They will keep the wheels turning to Austin and will be playing THE RUMBLE @ SXSW at Shangra La, as well as 6 other parties (including the WOXY Official SXSW showcase @ Emo's Annex on Friday night).

Red Fox Run by Twin Tigers from Robert Thomason on Vimeo.

Their debut record - 'Gray Waves' on Old Flame Records drops Tuesday, March 2nd and the album is a flamethrower. We're thrilled to include 'Passive Idol' on the upcoming Future Sounds 34 release. Here's what AQUARIUM DRUNKARD has to say about it: "A four piece, the bands live show kills, reminiscent of Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine and Psychocandy era JAMC."

So Twin Tigers will hit Los Angeles for THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES @ 3 Clubs on Thursday and we all had good fortune smile upon us when RUMSPRINGA stepped forward to headline our party as they prep for SXSW. We've been fans for some time and finally got our opportunity to bring them into that 3 Clubs backroom where they will take it apart. Our lovely resident DJ's, S.i.S. are always present, and always bring their smiles and great selections.

Opening up LA, but headlining THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO is a band that we're freaked out about - BEATERS. This band heads out on tour as direct support to THE SOFT PACK post-SXSW, and we get to double-dip with them in both cities, in our effort to show swap San Diego and Los Angeles bands together. They had us from the first 30 seconds of "Fishage". TWIN TIGERS will continue their tear of the West Coast at Bar Pink on Saturday night, and a San Francisco act that is a Rumble veteran, BIRDS & BATTERIES, round out the bill in SD. We're big fans of their single, "The Villain" off their 'Up To No Good EP'.

We'll be announcing the line-up for THE RUMBLE:LAS VEGAS, which is the featured show at this year's NEON REVERB FESITVAL on Friday night, as well as all the details surrounding the four SXSW Rumble parties. THE RUMBLE: NEW YORK will also be announced next week - New venue, back in the big apple.

THE RUMBLE: LA TONIGHT AT 3 CLUBS

We realized that LA needs more LOVE, and just in time for Valentine's Day, we decided to bring you JAGUAR LOVE this Thursday night at 3 Clubs for the Feb edition of THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES.
Playing all The Rumble west coast dates in February is the mighty JAGUAR LOVE. The band is about to drop in March their full-length, Hologram Jams (Fat Possum) and their new material is the best to date. They have already killed it with audiences in SF, Portland and Seattle.
Jaguar Love is one of two bands that have sprung out of the 2007 break-up of experimental hardcore band THE BLOOD BROTHERS (the other being Past Lives). In Jaguar Love are singer/pianist Johnny Whitney and guitarist Cody Votolato.
Also on the bill from the home turf, we bring you the street gang known as THE RHONE OCCUPATION, another act we've been enjoying and playing on a regular basis at radio, but we finally get to see them live. Opening up is a band out from the east coast doing a run of shows in LA that we were lucky enough to link up with ULTRA VIOLENT LIGHTS.
Our resident DJ's, the ladies of S.i.S. do what they are professionals at - bringing the party.
All this is FREE because we love you. 3 CLUBS is on the corner of Vine and S. Monica

The Rumble Los Angeles is brought to you by Future Sounds, RM64, Buzzbands.La, BMI, WOXY, Stranded In Stereo & Spin Earth

JAGUAR LOVE PLAYING ALL WEST COAST RUMBLES IN FEBRUARY

The perfect set up for Valentine's Day, we're thrilled to announce that JAGUAR LOVE will be playing ALL of the west coast RUMBLE dates in February. We've been clocking them for some time, but this new album, 'Hologram Jams' is filled with just that, JAMS! The record drops in March on Fat Possum and we've already been banging 'Started A Fire' and 'Polaroids & Red Wine" on the FS show on WOXY, but this disc runs deep.

The Rumbles have some new twists and turns starting in February that add spice along the way. We've moved the Rumble Seattle to the HAVANA SOCIAL CLUB in Capitol Hill.

In San Francisco, we say goodbye to our friends at Harlot after 2 years, and move over to Market to CAFE DUNORD to accommodate the growing list of SF partners, as we've added THE BAY BRIDGED, MR ROBOTO PRESENTS, the SF BAY GUARDIAN and even NOISE POP MUSIC FEST to the family. The Rumble: San Francisco will be the Warm Up Party for Noise Pop 2010, as well as the 5 year anniversary of THE OWL MAG and the 7 year anniversary of BAGEL RADIO!

The Rumble: San Diego will now find a home at BAR PINK in North Park, the coolest neighborhood in SD.

We're also thrilled to announce a new Rumble city - AUSTIN, TEXAS in February. More on this announcement but we've moved on to join our WOXY brothers and sisters at BEERLAND on Feb 11 and we have some amazing partners jumping on in the indie rock capitol.

JAGUAR LOVE - THE RUMBLE TOUR
Feb 1 - Seattle @ Havana Social Club
Feb 2 - Portland @ Holocene
Feb 3 - San Francisco @ Cafe DuNord
Feb 4 - Los Angeles @ 3 Clubs
Feb 6 - San Diego @ Bar Pink
Feb 7 - Las Vegas @ The Aruba

MORE ABOUT JAGUAR LOVE:
Jaguar Love is one of two bands that have sprung out of the 2007 break-up of experimental hardcore band The Blood Brothers (the other being Past Lives, comprising ex-singer Jordan Blilie, ex-drummer Mark Gajadhar, ex-bassist Morgan Henderson, and original Blood Brothers guitarist Devin Welch). In Jaguar Love, singer/pianist Johnny Whitney and guitarist Cody Votolato are ex-members of that band, and Pretty Girls Make Graves member Jay Clark was the drummer: Due to unforeseen differences, Jay Clark has left the band. As of Januay 21, 2008 the band has signed to the independent label Matador. The Blood Brothers’ music could be described as a schizophrenic split between raging hardcore punk and jagged art-punk with Surrealistic lyrics.

The three bands that developed as side-projects during The Blood Brothers’ existence—Whitney’s experimental post-hardcore bands Soiled Doves & Neon Blonde and the band’s other lead vocalist Jordan Billie & Votolato’s hardcore/thrash band Head Wound City—illustrated this. Jaguar Love has so far shown many characteristics found in Whitney’s past side-projects, albeit there is no electronica influence as heard in Neon Blonde and the “spazzcore” elements of Soiled Doves have been relatively toned down. In favor of the chaotic sound for those bands is the feeling of a more fully-fleshed out band with more concentration on melody, a lyrical maturation, and traditional songwriting that stylishly culls influence from indie rock, art-punk, soul, post-hardcore, jazz-rock, and glam metal. They are currently touring after finishing writing and recording the album [album]take me to the sea[/album] which is due out in august with production and recording duties being handled primarily by Clarke. Whitney’s clothing company Crystal City, which he co-owns with his wife Amy, has already designed and produced a handful of t-shirts for Jaguar Love.

FUTURE SOUNDS RECORDS RELEASES APES OF WRATH "DEATHTRAIN" TODAY

FUTURE SOUNDS RECORDS is thrilled to announce our first ever digital single release from the San Diego act, APES OF WRATH. Today we have released a newly finished version of the single, "Deathtrain" on iTunes.

INTERVIEW WITH UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA

Since early 2005 when we first discovered Seattle's UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA and put them on Future Sounds 18, we've wanted to get to know the Oz behind the curtain of U.S.E. After we witnessed them turn The Rumble: Seattle into their own dance private dance party, we had to get them to do the Rumble WC Tour of shows, and it's worked out around the release of their soon to be released full-length, 'L O V E W O R L D'.

We recently got even deeper with a pre-Rumble tour interview with the seven piece U.S.E, here's the result....

FS: First off, we’re thrilled to be involved with U.S.E’s LOVEWORLD release and return to the music scene. With 7 members in the group, it must be tough to get everyone together to work on anything. What’s the writing and recording process like for U.S.E?

USE: We get together in a very hot room, sweat a lot, grin at each other and start bashing on our instruments. Once we find a lick and a beat we keep building on it while drinking lots of redbull. Sorta sounds like a jam band, and there is truth to that, but we take our collaboration and song craft seriously. Next we go into the studio and record it for hours and hours. Lots of production. Lots of fun! As a side note, there are 7 of us. However, counting the audience that usually comes on stage its about 50.

FS: I honestly remember and downloaded your first release back in 2004 and I distinctly remember that it was mind-blowing at that time for a band to give away their entire album for free. You also started your band claiming to be an act from Mannheim, Germany and pulled the wool over people’s eyes in Seattle. Sounds like you always approach music from a creative and adventuresome place. Where does this come from?

USE: Our contribution to the world is our music. We want to share it w/ everyone. What better way than for free? We would rather have more people hear it and make a couple bucks less. Yes, we need to make a living, so that can be hard sometimes. But in the end we leave behind music, not money (cuz we spent it on duct tape fixing our instruments). The creativity and adventure go along with a song. That’s just a natural progression.

FS: Why was their such a gap between your last release and LOVEWORLD?

USE: After constantly touring we had to let out some of our other melodies in our heads that didn’t quite fit the U.S.E thing. And then life happened. As dumb as that sounds, it is pretty much true. Shotgun weddings (weddings with shotguns), other albums released, etc etc. In retrospect it is a bit hard to know exactly why it took so long, but it did. We slept a lot during the day, too. Then the songs and beats from the road coupled with social events culminated into L O V E W O R L D.

FS: I’ve rarely ever heard an artist as proud of the city in which they live, maybe since Randy Newman’s “I Love LA”. You first gave us “Emerald City” about your love for Seattle, and this time you give us “Look At This City”. Could we get the 8 favorite things about Seattle – one from each band member?

USE:
1. Big city w/ a small city feel.

2. The lakes, the mountains, the sound, the trees, the people.

3. The bands

4. The passion that people have for our city (its politics, landmarks and work for the environment.

5. Almost live

6. Pat Cash Man

7. Dick’s Hamburgers.

8. The gum wall by Alibi room. It slowly changes and usually keeps looking pretty- just like people.

FS: I feel like U.S.E have mastered the art of the vocoder. Rank in order your favorite use of the vocoder over the years from this lot: Jamie Fox, Cher, Daft Punk, Zapp & Roger

USE: Thanks! Cher is the first and last name in that realm. Technically, I think that was autotune, but it doesn’t matter in the end cuz it was so awesome. She really mastered the art of sounding like a soulless robot. How the hell did they come up with that idea? Did the intern sneak in at night attempting to sabotage the song because she yelled at him for not providing her 13 bottles of Evian, so he turned up the autotune and thought it would ruin her career? Truth be told, Daft Punk is the obvious and greatest inspiration for the vocoding. Jamie Foxx was great on that FOX series in the 90’s. Did he play a vocoder too?

Those last 2 sentences were Jon e.’s. He wants Cher and wont admit it. He has a thing for pancake butts.

FS: The themes behind U.S.E tracks have a consistency to them: Love, dancing, love, partying, kissing, dancing, love, etc. Are you modern day hippies?

USE: Who knows? Maybe we are hippies of a sort. A little idealism never hurt anybody. Although most of us shower on a semi regular basis.

FS: As you gear up to release LOVEWORLD and do a run of west coast dates through The Rumbles, do you have any advice for those attending a U.S.E gig for the first time?

USE: Make sure you stretch, smile and tip your bartender.

FS: Thanks for taking the time to respond and I look forward to seeing you again at The Rumbles.

USE: You're very welcome.

UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA TO PLAY SEPTEMBER RUMBLE PARTIES

Future Sounds is thrilled to be a part of the return to the music scene by UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA and their latest release, "LOVEWORLD". We had them kick off our Rumble: Seattle party and we're absolutely floored by their live show. Future Sounds featured U.S.E on Future Sounds 18 in February of 2005 after hearing the single, "Emerald City" and downloading their entire record for FREE, long before Radiohead or NIN ever even considered such a concept. That DIY attitude has always resonated with Future Sounds and The Rumble Tour reflects the theme that bands have more opportunity today than ever before to get their music heard in unique and groundbreaking ways.

U.S.E (aka United State of Electronica) is set to release its forthcoming second album, L O V E W O R L D on October 20 via a new partnership between Mannheim Worldwide and The Rebel Group. The CD release date will be preceded by a digital release on September 8.

U.S.E is an experience, a seven-piece party.
Check out this track, "K.I.S.S.I.N.G." and you'll see what you are about to be in for. U.S.E were one of the first bands that I can remember back in 2004 to give away their entire album for Free, and they still continue to record and perform to the beat of their own drum. We cannot stress strongly enough about how your life needs to experience U.S.E.

Download "K.I.S.S.I.N.G." (mp3)

SPIN gave recently gave U.S.E's L O V E W O R L D an 8/10 ranking, and said, "Any indie dude can bawl a sad song, but singing a genuinely uplifting one is tougher. Conjuring the communal spirits of both club music and underground rock, this seven-piece Seattle act pack their emphatically nonautomated Europop with arena-rock guitars, giddy girlie vocals, and vocoders set to stun. Rewriting the rainbow positivity of old Philly soul anthems with an English-as-second-language earnestness that amplifies their band-of-outsiders bliss, these atypical party people ride a love train that doesn't stop chugging until the final track. They just won't allow you to mope." Meanwhile The Stranger says of the band, "U.S.E are the feel-good band of the decade, hands down (I mean, up).
