TONIGHT @ SOUTHPAW - THE RUMBLE: BROOKLYN RETURNS

THE RUMBLE: BROOKLYN has a line up for December that is like an early Christmas present to you. This Wednesday's party features a group of bands that have 2010 to open up and blossom and will continue to give us great music for years to come.

Headlining is the mighty MARIANNE, the Brooklyn based, Japanese psychedelic freak-out that must be seen to believe. Think ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE meets BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW and you're getting close.

Supporting will be THE BLOODSUGARS, and anyone that's heard a note of the single, "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" knows the potential of this Brooklyn band.

Rough Trade's SHE KEEPS BEES delivers the third Brooklyn artist on the bill, riding in on a glowing review in Mojo and songs like "Gimme" make you want more more more.

Opening up is a real treat, someone we've been trying to get close to for over a year now, and up from Brisbane, Australia comes VIOLENT SOHO. We heard "Jesus Stole My Girlfriend", in all it's Kobain-like glory and Gil Norton-styled nob twistin'.

The Rumble: Brooklyn is a collaboration between Future Sounds, DEFALCO PRESENTS, SOUND FIX RECORDS and WOXY.COM, but this month we've added a new partner that we're thrilled about - THE MUSEBOX.

SOUTHPAW is located at 125 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Party starts @ 8pm.

CHECK OUT THE TRAILER FOR ECHOTONE - DOCUMENTARY ON THE AUSTIN MUSIC SCENE

We recently had the guys from Reversal Films pop into the FSHQ and give us a preview of the stunning documentary on the Austin music scene from a film called 'Echotone'. They posted the trailer finally for others to see, but this is an incredible look at a changing music scene in a city that prides itself as the heart of indie rock. Featured in the film are artists such as BLACK JOE LEWIS, BELAIRE, WHITE DENIM and {{{SUNSET}}}.

Swing over HERE to check out the trailer.

SHOUT OUT LOUDS ARE BACK WITH VIDEO FOR "WALLS"

It feels like yesterday we enjoyed each and every note on every single song on "Our Ill Wills", the last release from Sweden's SHOUT OUT LOUDS. We were fortunate enough to have the band headline our first Future Sounds Tour of the US at the tail end of 2007 and now they've returned with "Walls" the first single off their soon to be released album, "Work" on Merge Records. Here's the video....

FS DEBUTS 12.14.09

More information on bands that debuted this week on the FUTURE SOUNDS radio show on WOXY....

DAISY DARES YOU
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
TRACK: No. 1 Enemy

This one is going to be big, at least on the Euro side of the pond - DAISY DARES YOU. HUGE hit sounds from this lady that ain't bad to look at (see above). Major label stuff, but I'm not precious when it's done right - Jive/RCA/Sony

AN HORSE
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Brisbane, Australia
TRACK: Camp Out

Thanks to Seth for sending this one our way, yet another Australian act (what's going on down there??) from Brisbane comes AN HORSE. Mom & Pop Records (US), Valve Records (AU)

THE VASCO ERA
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Melbourne, Australia
TRACK: Oh, Sam

Australia delivers yet again with this band, THE VASCO ERA, who are a big deal down there and are poised to strike this time stateside with this track, "Oh, Sam". Universal Music Australia

PEOPLE IN GREY
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Toronto, Canada
TRACK: Catch Fire

This one just came in and judging from the three song demo I received this band has lots of potential in them. A four piece from Toronto with big hooks. Unsigned

LAUREL COLLECTIVE
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
TRACK: Cheap

They seem to be labeled "experimental" by anyone that has listened to the record, I've only heard this one track and was pulled in by it's lack of boundaries. Could be good, could be bad, in this case it's compelling. I just learned they are signed to XL's Double Six Records

WILD PALMS
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
TRACK: ...Over...Time...

Somebody has listed to THE FALL...London's WILD PALMS throw in some WIRE for good measure as well, arty and clanky. Unsigned
VOLCANOES
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
TRACK: Temple

Just look at this photo above, these guys, VOLCANOES, are wildcards to say the least. We got sent these demos and this one is worth keeping tabs of, I need to see this one live. Unsigned

WAY NO WAY
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Austin, Texas
TRACK: Too Late

You know that Future Sounds loves our GUIDED BY VOICES, think about it - we named our event HOT FREAKS. Sounding like a newborn GBV it's Austin's WAY NO WAY. Unsigned

Ólöf Arnalds
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Somewhere in Iceland
TRACK: Englar og dárar

This voice is from heaven, err, Iceland. Here's what BJORK said about her: “She has a really idiosyncratic sense of chord structure and a voice somewhere between a child and an old woman! She has her own individuality, and the best is yet to come.”- Bjork - One Little Indian

MAUS HAUS
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: San Francisco
TRACK: Rigid Breakfast

I'm now obsessed with this CD, "Lark Marvels", so much so that I think this should be a breakout act in 2010. Haven't seen it live, but this disc tells me this is legit! Pretty Blue Presents

STORNOWAY
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Oxford, UK
TRACK: Zorbing

Probably by the time you read this band will be signed to some genius label in the UK. What's not to like about these kids, it's got that huge FLEET FOXES vocals yet it's not folky. Unsigned

LISSIE
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Rock Island, IL
TRACK: Little Lovin'

Don't confuse this one for LISSIE TRULIE, another Lissie we love here at FS, it's the Illinois version of a lady with huge potential. Think JONI MITCHELL or CAROLE KING, but from our generation. Fat Possum

FREE CHRISTMAS MUSIC FROM ANNI ROSSI

If you read this blog from time to time, you know about our affection for the wonderfully talented ANNI ROSSI. The Christmas season is pretty damn cold in Chicago where Anni is from, so Anni stays inside with the nog and cuts some fine tunes of yuletide cheer. As a thank you to everyone who has supported her this year, including big tours with Camera Obscura, Noah and the Whale, Mason Jennings, and more, Anni wants to offer everyone a nice little early holiday gift. Go to annirossi.com and sign up for the fan club, and she'll give you her Christmas Songs EP and a decoder ring that tells you to "drink your Ovaltine." Okay, so the latter is a fib, but the EP is not. Go check it out, and have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Here's a present for you - Download "Silver Bells" - For the FREE Christmas EP, go HERE.

SATURDAY MATINEE - THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO @ THE CASBAH

Tomorrow in San Diego @ The Casbah it's THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO at the matinee show time of 3pm-6pm. It's the perfect pre-dinner afternoon hang with two bands that destroyed their sets @ The Rumble: LA last evening - TAPE DECK MOUNTAIN and THE DROWNING MEN. Tape Deck's album 'Ghost' (Lefse) sounded HUGE in the 3 Clubs last evening and I heard rumor about some DANZIG cover in the works for Saturday. The Drowning Men really crept in last night and stole some hearts with their BEIRUT meets GOGOL BORDELLO meets ARCADE FIRE sounds. Coming down from LA it's ALL WRONG & THE PLANS CHANGE, who are debuting new tracks from their next EP for the first time. The 3 songs we heard from it last night, especially the opening song were stunning. On the turntables will be Andy Ralph from SD act, WRITER, and there will be TRUMER PILS beer specials throughout.

Party is FREE

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES - THE RUMBLE: LA @ 3 CLUBS

In the highly competitive season of Holiday shows, benefits and parties, tonight in LA delivers plenty of options. Options are nice, but THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES is mandatory. You must come to this show, please.

What's on tap this month is a four band line up, and a true battle of LA vs. SD. The upstart San Diego, as you know and as we've reported previously, is coming strong these days with quality band after band. Tonight they are represented in a 'The Warriors' style battle royale by TAPE DECK MOUNTAIN, the heralded buzzing act that Pitchfork loves, and the Arcade Fire-like power of THE DROWNING MEN. Los Angeles steps forward with the Pretenders-meets-Belly rock and roll of ALL WRONG & THE PLANS CHANGE and first up will be the uber-creative, EVAN VOYTAS. The ladies that call themselves DJ S.i.S. will be there making all the boys stare at them on the turntables.

Joining The Rumble: Los Angeles family of partners is BUZZBANDS.LA. We've read Kevin's column for years at the Times, now as the full-fledged BB.LA blog, he's out every night reporting back on what we should've have gone out to see. Welcome brother.

The Rumble: Los Angeles is FREE and it's at 3 Clubs in Hollywood - on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Vine. Don't spend too much time in the Army surplus store, get in early for EV.
