TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: FITZ & THE TANTRUMS KICK OFF THEIR SPACELAND RESIDENCY

Tonight begins the month-long residency by a group of individuals that are family to us > FITZ & THE TANTRUMS. With a touch of jetlag from doing shows in NYC, Philly and DC last weekend, they are back in action to hold it down in Silverlake at Spaceland every Thursday in June. If you fell for the EP, "Songs For A Break-Up Vol.1", then wait until you hear their Dangerbird Records debut, "Pickin' Up The Pieces", much of which they'll be playing live this evening. Grab a copy of 944 Magazine this month, as the lovely Noelle is featured.

TONIGHT IN NEW YORK: FITZ & THE TANTRUMS @ MERCURY LOUNGE

New York friends it's time for some soul on a Friday night. Start off your Memorial Day weekend right before you head out to the beaches and see FITZ & THE TANTRUMS tonight @ The Mercury Lounge.

In case you fell asleep and missed it, Fitz & Co are on the quiet takeover of late. Having recently signed to Dangerbird Records and playing shows all over with SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS, the wrecking crew are about to do a Thursday night residency at Spaceland in June that should be slamming every single week. Tonight they take it to the east siddddde and then to D.C. tomorrow night at The Black Cat. We've heard the forthcoming full-length, "Pickin' Up The Pieces" and it's head-to-toe perfection, already a contender for Album Of The Year before it's even dropped.

FUTURE SOUNDS PRESENTS NICO STAI @ SPACELAND SATURDAY NIGHT

This Saturday night, Future Sounds is proud to present a night of music with some of our favorites @ Spaceland. NICO STAI, the artist that just continues to blossom in front of our very eyes, will be headlining and bringing his Joe Strummer-meets-Springsteen sound to what should be a loaded house. The heavenly voices of CHIEF, another Rumble LA veteran, will show you why their new record is going to be placed high in your iPod next to your Fleet Foxes and Mumford & Sons. Coming in from Seattle, it's FENCES, no stranger to the FS radio show on WOXY, so we're excited to see what the live show is like. New to us, but maybe not to you, it's YIKES! A LION!. Tickets are on sale HERE.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: BUZZBANDS.LA HOLIDAZE @ SPACELAND

Our buddy at BUZZBANDS.LA is showing off how much of a holiday guy he is by throwing a Free show this evening at Spaceland - the Buzzbands.LA 'Holidaze' featuring LETTING UP DESPITE GREAT FAULTS, DEATH KIT, SPIRIT ANIMAL and WET & RECKLESS, plus the Hell Ya! Dj's spinning treats.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: NIGHTMARE AIR & AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE @ SPACELAND

An evening of psychedelic howling happens tonight at Spaceland with the banshee cries of Dave Dupuis and his new unit, NIGHTMARE AIR, when they support the storm that is AMUSEMENT PARKS ON FIRE. First single, "Who Who Lies" has been on heavy rotation for us on the FS WOXY radio show and on the BBC6 in London.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: LOVELIKEFIRE @ SPACELAND

We love LOVELIKEFIRE! They are in town touring with DIVISION DAY and BAD VEINS and hit the stage at 9pm this evening. Have you actually listened to "Boredom" or "William" yet? Thanks to Retts Wood for the photo.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: RESIDENCIES VS BAT FOR LASHES

Oh my, the lovely Natasha Khan of BAT FOR LASHES headlines the Music Box @ Fonda this evening (The excellent OTHER LIVES supports). That haunting "Daniel" gets in your head and stays like an old college buddy on your couch.

If you can't go the big ticket item at The Fonda, it's Free residency night at Spaceland and The Echo with a duel between two bands we love: LOCAL NATIVES and THE GROWLERS.

See THE GROWLERS at The Echo with former FS32 act, MY PET SADDLE.

LOCAL NATIVES hold court at Spaceland with THE HENRY CLAY PEOPLE and AUSHUA (FS30).

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: A B & THE SEA @ SPACELAND - RAINBOW ARABIA AT BORDELLO

Tonight at Spaceland, it's a band that if you don't already know them, you will. San Francisco's
A B & THE SEA are the first band on this evening and someone you don't want to miss. The two songs they've self-released are nothing short of brilliant, and if you do listen to our radio show, you hear them weekly. Go, you'll thank us later. FRUIT BATS and DEATH VESSEL round out that bill.

It's a tough night to pick a winner, with DEERHUNTER in Eagle Rock, DUNGEN & WOODS at The Troubadour and playing later this evening down at Bordello, it's RAINBOW ARABIA, a band with an incredible sound from a distant land, even if they hail from Socal.

THE JAKES SIGN TO ROADRUNNER RECORDS

I just read in KINGS OF A&R that our friends, THE JAKES, have just inked a deal with Roadrunner Records. Frontman Sameer Gahdia has an incredible voice and their CD "Shake My Hand" got plenty of love around the HQ. Congrats for getting it done guys!

They play Spaceland on September 7th with St. Motel.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: BENJI HUGHES @ SPACELAND

No, that isn't Scottie Diablo, but it is another badddddaassssss dude like El Diablo - tonight at Spaceland performing for the Sunset Junction after party, it's the howlin' wolf himself, BENJI HUGHES. If you were dumb enough not to purchase/download/stream his debut album, "A Love Supreme" then we'll give you a second chance to pull your head out if you get out to see this guy. Benji Hughes could be the next ELVIS. Ladies beware, the Benji can go topless. Another act we dig, B.R.A.M. will be supporting the bearded one.

Tough night of shows out there to pick just one though, GIRLS are supporting LOS CAMPESINOS! at The El Rey, and HOCKEY, remember them?, they are playing Club Underground at The Echo. Then you wanna talk about some legends, STEELY DAN is playing the entire "Aja" album at the Gibson Amphitheatre and the incredible godfathers or PNW rock, THE SONICS, are back from the grave at the Echoplex.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: BAND OF SKULLS + OTHERS

If you haven't caught the mighty, mighty BAND OF SKULLS yet during their stint in the US, do it quickly before they return back to London. They have blazed a deep trail over the past two months, and John said that their Capitol Hill Block party set in Seattle last weekend was a mammoth! They play again tonight at Spaceland and you need to be there. If you haven't seen Emma play bass yet, then you'll fall in line as a disciple of the BoS!!

Also this evening, GLASVEGAS and IDA MARIA are at The Fonda, MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. are playing the Aquarium Drunkard party at The Echo, and FS33 darlings - THE NIGHTS - play The Silverlake Lounge this evening.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: ANDY CLOCKWISE + NATALIE PORTMAN'S SHAVED HEAD

Tonight is night #2 of the ANDY CLOCKWISE residency at Spaceland. Have you seen this guy yet? Interesting indeed? They've also added NATALIE PORTMAN'S SHAVED HEAD (Seattle), HEY CHAMP, and BROKEN METERS. It's also free.

VIDEO: OTHER GIRLS "HEY FELLA, YA FELL"

Our new favorite band from Cleveland, OTHER GIRLS, have put together this High Fidelity meets MTV in the '80's music video for "Hey Fella, Ya Fell", a song we debuted a few weeks back on the radio show but keeps growing on us by the day. More good news, they are supporting THE VEILS at Spaceland on July 15th.
Thanks to the Diablo for the video...

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: MINIATURE TIGERS @ SPACELAND

Supporting the ANDY CLOCKWISE residency at Spaceland tonight, it's MINIATURE TIGERS, the band from Phoenix with an incredible record ("Tell It To The Volcano") that's one of our favorites this year. Also on the bill is a former Future Sounds compilation band, THE VLA, as well as GLOBES ON REMOTE.

Just in case you haven't seen the video for the Miniature Tiger's song, "Cannibal Queen", here it is....

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: FITZ & THE TANTRUMS @ CLUB NME

CLUB NME at Spaceland tonight features FITZ & THE TANTRUMS! They're debuting a number of tracks from Vol. 2 of the EP plus your favorites. JENNY O supports and I'm told there is a surprise opening act. Doors at 8:30 pm. Listen to Fitz and co. below in the FS33 player post, they open the compilaton with 'Breakin' The Chains Of Love".

In from Denton, Texas, you must hear the summer party tunes that are ROY G & THE BIV tonight at Spaceland with LOVE GRENADES and BIG MOVES. Listen to "Runnin'" and get back to me on your new favorite song that JAMIE FOXX should cover (vocoder-tastic).

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: GANGI @ SPACELAND

Our boy, GANGI, kicks off his May Spaceland residency tonight in Silverlake with a cast of supporters that are as diverse as his album, "A", truly is. It's finally coming out on White Noise Vinyl and there are some great tracks like "Commonplace Feathers" (mp3)

Down from Seattle is HEAD LIKE A KITE - incredible music!
