NEW SOUNDS: MUMFORD & SONS

London's MUMFORD & SONS have dropped this year's most gorgeous song in "White Blank Page" (sorry to THE LOW ANTHEM and "Charlie Darwin", the runner up) and by the sound of what's happening with the band on the ground in the UK, and the early blog chatter here in the States, it could very well be the new FLEET FOXES. I love any band that lists THE BEACH BOYS' "God Only Knows" as their favorite lyrics ever. In the UK they've dropped an EP on Chess Club Records on July 7th, not sure what's up over here but it can't be long.

FUTURE SOUNDS PROUDLY PRESENTS THE 1ST NIGHT OF AVI BUFFALO RESIDENCY

If you read this blog or listen to the FS radio show even occasionally, you know we have a real sweet spot for the high school band from Long Beach called AVI BUFFALO. The band has a residency for the month of May at The Echo starting Tuesday May 5th, and Future Sounds is getting behind the night to support them. Lots of rumors swirling about around this young band, that one of the historic indie labels is sniffing around them, and personally, it's only a matter of time before the world wakes up to this talent. Also playing are some other FS favorites, like TENLONS FORT and DEEP SEA DIVER.

It's Free if you are 21 and up, $5 if not.

NEW SOUNDS: DIANE BIRCH = AMAZING!

Ouch! View that picture, then head over to the Myspace page of DIANE BIRCH and hear the voice and you'll be as smitten as I am. It's as if CAROLE KING's 'Tapestry" record had a baby and out popped Diane Birch. We're excited about dropping a single of her's, "Nothing But A Miracle" on our WOXY radio show next week and it's absolutely stunning in sound. She's signed to S Curve, a label known for breaking JOSS STONE among others, so they know how to make it work for female artists. This one could be a breakout in a time when no one is breaking out. Consider yourself warned..

SHOWS IN LA TONIGHT - VIDEO FROM RUBBER KISS GOODBYE

If you aren't seeing THE BOSS tonight at the LA Sports Arena, there's plenty to see in town this evening. San Diego buzz band WAVVES are playing with FOL CHEN at The Echo tonight. Fol Chen's latest single, "Cable TV" is a part of their Asthmatic Kitty release and we've made it a staple of our recent FS shows on WOXY.

The sleeper for the evening is ODAWAS at the Silverlake Lounge. The band is on Jagjaguwar and I have a feeling this is a band that shines live even more than they do on record.

Next up, been intrigued by this band from the UK called RUBBER KISS GOODBYE and their track "We See Lights". Interesting backstory here, Bryan Ferry of ROXY MUSIC's kid, plus the guitarist from Bryan's band, and the former bass player for BABYSHAMBLES.

FIGHT LIKE APES - AMERICA WAKE UP

I received this picture from Ryan Suffern today from SXSW of May Kay of Dublin's FIGHT LIKE APES and it's so amazing that I felt I had to post about this band based on this photo alone. The second coming of Siouxsie? FLA have been climbing the ladder in Ireland and the UK, recently headlining the NME Tour with The Ting Tings, and I'm still waiting for this act to get traction in America. Of all the places that seem like they'd get this Punk Rock meets PAVEMENT band, I'd think Uncle Sam would, but so far it's just been some flirts. What I love about this picture is that Ryan actually captured the madness and the brilliance of May when she's on stage. We've been banging on about them since May 2007, and it's nice to see them making their way, but come on, enough already America, get on this.

FINALLY CAN SHARE TWO NEW VIDEOS BY THE RINGERS

It's perfect timing that LA's THE RINGERS have finally decided to make their two new videos available to the public as they kick off their month-long residency at The Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa tonight. The tracks are "Old Man Ron" and "Rough In The Diamond" off their 'Headlocks & Highkicks" LP. The "Old Man Ron" video is one of the best things I've seen in some time.

The band will also be appearing this Thursday on FUEL TV's 'Daily Habit' show

SUNDAY NIGHT @ CINESPACE: LILOFEE PLAY CAMERATA

Sunday night's at Cinespace has become one of the busiest nights in town, as the CAMERATA party recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary in style, and most of those nights have had THE DEVIL'S ORCHESTRA playing in the band room. This Sunday night, San Francisco's LILOFEE make the drive south to drop new tracks and play only their second LA show ever. This band recently played with DEERHUNTER at Noise Pop and with HERCULES & THE LOVE AFFAIR for Popscene vs Loaded, as well as last month's Rumble SF performance.

Labels: , , ,

PHOTOS FROM THE RUMBLE: LA

Thanks again to all the bands that came into LA last night from places beyond to take part in the party. THE RUMBLE: LA had more bands in attendance than people I think - we saw PORTUGAL THE MAN, BLACKMARKET, Casey from DJANGO JAMES & THE MIDNIGHT SQUIRES, FILM SCHOOL, THE ANSWERING MACHINE, and LOVELIKEFIRE just to name a few. Thanks again for Ryan Suffern for taking photos, here are a few...

Who's playing? RADEMACHER bring their indie rock magic to the 3 Clubs in Hollywood, playing songs off their 'Stunts' album and some new surprises. All the way from Austin, Texas, THE FRONTIER BROTHERS. Not sure if you heard their WOXY Lounge Acts session from SXSW but these guys killed it live. Finally, Oslo's SIMON SAYS NO bring us Norway's slice of shoegaze tonight after having closed out the Rumble: San Francisco last night. As always, the twin-towers, DJ's MiCHAEL, will handle the music duties throughout the night - first band hits the stage at 9:15pm.

TONIGHT THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO @ HARLOT

Our posse hooked up with THE BAY BRIDGED for tonight's RUMBLE: SF at Harlot (46 Minna Street) and they linked us to LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION - a Bay area band that should be showing up everywhere soon enough. Norway's SIMON SAYS NO are also experiencing Haight Street at this moment, gearing up for their late night set this evening - I saw a Twitter from them that they were knee-deep in a drum circle on Hippie Hill already this morning. Drink specials for the first hour and a half (doors at 8pm) - bands hit the stage at 11pm, and DJ VIN SOL is gracing the party. Resident DJ BAGEL TED, who's kicking off his new radio program, At Home With DJ Unfit For Work, today at Noon (Pacific) on Bagel Radio today - tune in here > http://www.live365.com/stations/leibowt?play - will also be spinning the indie dance tunes you come out each month for.
