UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA TO PLAY SEPTEMBER RUMBLE PARTIES

Future Sounds is thrilled to be a part of the return to the music scene by UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA and their latest release, "LOVEWORLD". We had them kick off our Rumble: Seattle party and we're absolutely floored by their live show. Future Sounds featured U.S.E on Future Sounds 18 in February of 2005 after hearing the single, "Emerald City" and downloading their entire record for FREE, long before Radiohead or NIN ever even considered such a concept. That DIY attitude has always resonated with Future Sounds and The Rumble Tour reflects the theme that bands have more opportunity today than ever before to get their music heard in unique and groundbreaking ways.

U.S.E (aka United State of Electronica) is set to release its forthcoming second album, L O V E W O R L D on October 20 via a new partnership between Mannheim Worldwide and The Rebel Group. The CD release date will be preceded by a digital release on September 8.

U.S.E is an experience, a seven-piece party.
Check out this track, "K.I.S.S.I.N.G." and you'll see what you are about to be in for. U.S.E were one of the first bands that I can remember back in 2004 to give away their entire album for Free, and they still continue to record and perform to the beat of their own drum. We cannot stress strongly enough about how your life needs to experience U.S.E.

Download "K.I.S.S.I.N.G." (mp3)

SPIN gave recently gave U.S.E's L O V E W O R L D an 8/10 ranking, and said, "Any indie dude can bawl a sad song, but singing a genuinely uplifting one is tougher. Conjuring the communal spirits of both club music and underground rock, this seven-piece Seattle act pack their emphatically nonautomated Europop with arena-rock guitars, giddy girlie vocals, and vocoders set to stun. Rewriting the rainbow positivity of old Philly soul anthems with an English-as-second-language earnestness that amplifies their band-of-outsiders bliss, these atypical party people ride a love train that doesn't stop chugging until the final track. They just won't allow you to mope." Meanwhile The Stranger says of the band, "U.S.E are the feel-good band of the decade, hands down (I mean, up).

So THE RUMBLE West Coast dates are in for September, here are the line ups:

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: RESIDENCIES VS BAT FOR LASHES

Oh my, the lovely Natasha Khan of BAT FOR LASHES headlines the Music Box @ Fonda this evening (The excellent OTHER LIVES supports). That haunting "Daniel" gets in your head and stays like an old college buddy on your couch.

If you can't go the big ticket item at The Fonda, it's Free residency night at Spaceland and The Echo with a duel between two bands we love: LOCAL NATIVES and THE GROWLERS.

See THE GROWLERS at The Echo with former FS32 act, MY PET SADDLE.

LOCAL NATIVES hold court at Spaceland with THE HENRY CLAY PEOPLE and AUSHUA (FS30).

We just learned that Fitz' album, "Songs For A Break-Up Vol. 1" (Future Sounds Records) is the #9 most played record on KCRW.

Fitz also just did an interview below with RickDees.com - Mr. Radio...

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: A B & THE SEA @ SPACELAND - RAINBOW ARABIA AT BORDELLO

Tonight at Spaceland, it's a band that if you don't already know them, you will. San Francisco's
A B & THE SEA are the first band on this evening and someone you don't want to miss. The two songs they've self-released are nothing short of brilliant, and if you do listen to our radio show, you hear them weekly. Go, you'll thank us later. FRUIT BATS and DEATH VESSEL round out that bill.

It's a tough night to pick a winner, with DEERHUNTER in Eagle Rock, DUNGEN & WOODS at The Troubadour and playing later this evening down at Bordello, it's RAINBOW ARABIA, a band with an incredible sound from a distant land, even if they hail from Socal.

FUTURE SOUNDS DEBUTS

Here's a look at the artists that appeared for the first time on the Future Sounds radio show on WOXY.com...

THE XX
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
Ok, so The XX is on everyone's playlist these days. We haven't seen such blanket blog hype about someone in some time, and from early listens, it's deserved. Unsigned for another 5 minutes.

THE LONELY H
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Seattle, WA
Listening to their third release now, "Concrete Class", this Seattle act that boasts three members under 21, with big brother at 22, playing songs that sound like they stepped right out of "Three Steps" era-Lynyrd Skynrd. These guys are legit, live they are smokestack lightning! Control Group

MY JERUSALEM
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: New Orleans/Austin, TX
This band has a big cast of characters behind it, guys that have played in bands such as The Polyphonic Spree, The Twilight Singers, Bishop Allen, Great Northern and St Vincent. Listen to "Sweet Chariots". Unsigned

SIR LORD VON RAVEN
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Oakland, CA
A Bay area super-group, with members of Gris Gris, Silver Jews, Howlin' Rain and The Nice Boys. Garage rock the way those guys know how to crank it out. Check out "The Glass Castle".
HappyParts Recordings

SMALL BLACK
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY
Already getting Pitchfork love? Yep, quite a head start for Brooklyn's Small Black. Precious indie rock that's so in fashion at the moment, we chose to play "Despicable Dogs" first, but these guys roll deep with great tracks. Cassclub Records

GET BACK GUINOZZI!
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Toulon, France
These Frenchies have that special je ne sais qua. Track "Carpet Madness" has me obsessed, a perfect summer track on the Tom Tom Club side of the fence. Fatcat Records

FACTORY FLOOR
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
Do you think someone likes Joy Division?? Factory Floor formed off of throw-away demos from the Factory in Manchester. Dig the song, "Lying". Unsigned

TRAILER TRASH TRACY'S
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: London
This one sounds dirty, sounds like they recorded the tracks off a turntable with your old man's old tape recorder. Track "Candy Girl" is fantastic. No Pain In Pop Records

MARICOPA
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY
I was handed this CD by the bass player in SEAN BONES/SAM CHAMPION, Mr. Jack Dolgen goes by Maricopa (he's from AZ) and his '70's inspired indie rock is a sing-along. Check out "It's Going To Be All Right". He's playing Pianos in NYC on August 29th. Unsigned

TAPE DECK MOUNTAIN
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: San Diego, CA
Super cool guys that we met down at The Rumble: San Diego, a band that's buzzing in SD and is already putting things out on sOOper hip Lefse Records (Neon Indian, etc). Listen to track, "A Cool Thing".

THE VOX JAGUARS
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, CA
This record apparently was in the office for months, and it wasn't until their brilliant young manager followed up with me and sent the mp3, did I lock onto what THE VOX JAGUARS were giving us. Track "Swagger" has just that - attitude and then some. Anondyne Records

PAUL & THE PATIENTS
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, NY

Really digging this act from Brooklyn on American Myth Recordings (Lissy Trulie's 'Self-taught Learner EP') with a big UK sound. Awaiting more tracks, this one debuted in the Hot 5, need to see this one live.

EVAN VOYTAS
MYSPACE
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles' EVAN VOYTAS came to our attention via RCRDLBL.COM and held it with track "Give It Back". Looks like we need to get Mr Voytas on a Rumble LA. Off the perfectly titled release, "The New Dynamic Sound of Evan Voytas". Unsigned

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: BENJI HUGHES @ SPACELAND

No, that isn't Scottie Diablo, but it is another badddddaassssss dude like El Diablo - tonight at Spaceland performing for the Sunset Junction after party, it's the howlin' wolf himself, BENJI HUGHES. If you were dumb enough not to purchase/download/stream his debut album, "A Love Supreme" then we'll give you a second chance to pull your head out if you get out to see this guy. Benji Hughes could be the next ELVIS. Ladies beware, the Benji can go topless. Another act we dig, B.R.A.M. will be supporting the bearded one.

Tough night of shows out there to pick just one though, GIRLS are supporting LOS CAMPESINOS! at The El Rey, and HOCKEY, remember them?, they are playing Club Underground at The Echo. Then you wanna talk about some legends, STEELY DAN is playing the entire "Aja" album at the Gibson Amphitheatre and the incredible godfathers or PNW rock, THE SONICS, are back from the grave at the Echoplex.

NEW SOUNDS: YOUR NATURE

We recently received one of our favorite EP's of the year by way of Brooklyn, a young band called YOUR NATURE. We spun it and spun it, and then started playing it on the radio show, and now we keep getting deeper and deeper into the tracks, getting past our early favorites and realizing just how strong the complete output truly is. This spurned us to track them down and ask them some questions. Here's the interview....

FS: I understand you were formerly a band called FRANKPOLLIS, was that a combo of John Frank and the Pollis brothers? What happened to Frankpollis and why Your Nature?

YN: Yea. We transformed because we had a new member (Malcolm) and the sound was changing.

FS: So the band consists of 2 brothers and 2 friends. When it comes to big band decisions, do you take sides ever? Bros vs friends?

YN: Not really. We're all friends. Of course brothers fight sometimes, but when it comes to big decisions we all draw straws and then drink milkshakes with the straws... And then we decide.

FS: For a relatively new band, you've done well on the press tip - Spin, Brooklyn Vegan, Paper, and now Future Sounds. You guys must be doing something right, what's the secret sauce?

YN: We don't really know. That kinda stuff just happens, but we could always use more..

FS: Since it's arrival into the Future Sounds HQ, we've played the hell out of 'Your Nature EP'. I have to say it's an impressive output, and what I really like about it is that you went for it and thought big! What was the intent behind the EP and your approach to songwriting in general?

YN: We went into the studio to record as many songs as possible and eventually we just chose the songs that came out well and sounded good together. Throughout the mixing we noticed that a lot of the songs had a strange feeling of moving forward. Like driving, or flying, or sailing or just zooming through space. Hence "Forward Motion."

FS: The "record industry" is in trouble is the doom and gloom story you hear everywhere, but are you guys caught up in the dinosaur or do you think this new 'wild west' approach to getting heard and putting music out is to your advantage?

YN: The "wild west" has treated us well so far, but of course everyone would like to tame a dinosaur.

FS: "Forward Motion" is a really big song, it's 4:11 and it's a ride. "Cherokee Blood" has been in our Hot 5 for weeks. "Sands" is also terrific, we could go on and on about this EP, what's your favorite track? How about favorite track to play live?

YN: "Triangle Eyes" is defnitely the most meaningful to us. It's fun to play and it's how we got our name in a way, "...categorize your nature."

FS: Will you be playing CMJ this October?

YN: Yes. Come see us, it's gonna be sweet. We don't know the schedule yet, but the show info will be posted on our myspace - www.myspace.com/yournature - soon. So check it out.

FS: A constant theme at Future Sounds is to find out who will become the next Your Nature. Can you guys tell us some cool bands that you know that aren't getting the proper attention that you can give a shout out to?

YN: Most of our friends are getting a lot of attention, which is great. But one band who we play with a lot and could always use attention is WILD YAKS.They're awesome. Their live show is unlike any other in New York.

FS: I understand the EP will be available for sale on iTunes soon, what's the release date?

YN: It should pop up in the next few weeks. It'll be availble on most online music stores. As of now, you can order straight from us, just go to our myspace - www.myspace.com/yournature, under blog, you will see the instruction.

FS: Thanks for your time!

YN: Thanks a lot! Appreciate the support.

NEW SOUNDS: O. CHILDREN

Since the moment we first heard that deep rumble in "Dead Disco Dancer", we were intrigued by London's O. CHILDREN. We've played them almost weekly on the FS radio program, and have posted the video previously, but it kicked us in the pants to get in touch, let them know of our love for them, and ask some questions. Here's the interview with Tobi of O. Children....

FS: "Dead Disco Dancer' has been one of our favorite tracks to come our way at Future Sounds in months. Are you still mourning the passing of Michael Jackson?

OC: Not so much anymore. When the news broke it was it seemed unbelievable. No one really saw it coming.

FS: I love that you pulled the band name from a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds song, how much does the dark one (NC) affect your musical approach?

OC: You could say Nick Cave is an influence in our approach to the band. We all met and bonded over our love of "Shivers" by Boys Next Door, his band before the Birthday Party and the Bad Seeds.

FS: How long has O. Children been together? I tried to find out more online, seems you were in a band called 'Bono Must Die'? That's brilliant, tell us more and how that became O. Children.

OC: Bono Must Die was funny. We were about 15 and didn't really know what we were doing. It was a whole load of fun for about 2 years and did surprisingly well. But then it got a little too much when we were being served with threats of subpoenas and death threats so we called it a day. I still listen to those songs sometimes and laugh. I went on holiday, came back, and decided I wanted to make music with more meaning and got to work on O.Children. Here we are.

FS: What part of London are you from? Or are you from London? I'm not sure where Illvile, by way of New York/Bordeaux/Durham/Clare is?

OC: We all live in East London as it's cheap. Basically from Shoreditch, where the hipsters are, all the way to Victoria Park. The more quiet, serene part of town. That's where I am.

FS: Some people may not know this, but singer Tobi O'Kandi is 6 foot 8, pretty intimidating indeed. Those of us in the US will have to wait a minute before we see you live, but how does your size affect the live show and your average fan?

OC: I like it when I can pinpoint someone in the crowd and toy with them. Not, so much, bully them. Just put a little bit of the fear of God in them. That's always fun. Apparently my height helps with the whole aesthetic of the show but I've never really seen any footage of us playing live so I don't know if that's true. I always forget I'm taller than everyone else...till I bang my head on a ceiling.

FS: How did you meet up with Phil Hutcheon of Deadly Records? That guy knows what he's doing, he's worked with some amazing acts at Modular Records over the years. What's the plan - what's next? Single on August 10th, then what? Any US plans?

OC: Phil was putting out another band's single and we were the support act. The place was huge and we had about 7 people there to see us and 3 of them were sitting down. I guess through all that Phil saw something with us and pretty much signed us the next day. He's a cool guy. Throws good parties too. The single is actually out on September 7. The date keeps changing. Technically it was meant to be out in May. But I think the date is set now. It's not changing anymore.

FS: Will you be playing any of the fall festivals? CMJ in New York? In The City in Manchester?

OC: We're giving the festival thing a break till next year as we're pretty new. Working on the live show, hoping for lasers and a big stage next year. Fingers crossed.

FS: Do you guys get the HBO series, True Blood, over there? I would like to see O. Children perform in the vamp bar, Fangtasia, during an episode.

OC: True Blood is fairly new over here. I've only seen the first episode. There was loads of vampire sex. I'm not sure why anyone would want to sleep with a vampire. Surely there are limitations because of the lack of blood? If I was in True Blood I'd be the Buzzkill telling them how they're lives are entertaining but make no sense.

FS: Future Sounds always asks bands we love to give some shout outs to other up-and-coming bands that we may not know of but deserve to be heard. Anyone you guys can shine a spotlight on at the moment?

OC: The Rayographs new single, Francis, is being played where i am right now. I recommend that.

Thanks again Tobi for giving us some time, looks like we're going to have to get over your way if we want to see you soon. - FS

PHOTOS FROM LAST NIGHT'S RUMBLE: LA PARTY

Thanks to everyone that came out last night to help us celebrate our first year at 3 Clubs in Hollywood for THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES. The entire 3 Clubs staff couldn't be any nicer or gracious...we just received some great shots from Ryan Suffern from the evening, check it....

CHIEF were absolutely brilliant. 3 part harmonies that give Fleet Foxes a run for their money, and probably some of the nicest, most genuine cats around. Their set was mesmerizing, as if CSN&Y were playing a private show in your living room. Can't wait for their record to drop this fall.

Speaking of harmonies and songs chalked full of melody, PRINCETON brought their A game and their thirst (we knocked down a few cans) to the Rumble. They told us they are about to go back out on the road with RA RA RIOT again.

Opening up we all got a glimpse of that allusive animal we've all been hearing about, playing little shows around town, growing a fanbase, building a quick mysticism about them - CHEETAHSAURUS from Ventura, CA. We also found out that frontman, Wyatt, formerly fronted THE COLOUR, a band we featured back in the glory days on FS13. Duely impressed.

Finally, a big thanks goes out to FIRESTONE BREWING, who provided all the free beer during the Rumble-Pre Party with the A2IM, BMI and RM64 folks.
