The collective from just outside of Dallas, known as the MOUNT RIGHTEOUS ENSEMBLE are in Southern California for shows throughout Memorial Day Weekend, starting TONIGHT at the Silverlake Lounge (10PM set time - although they play throughout the evening in between bands). This group is an 'experience' that needs to be seen live, as all 11 members perform completely acoustic and louder than most screamo bands. Think the UT marching band gone indie rock. We're hosting a great BBQ on Saturday so hit me up if you're into great food and live music.Labels: Mount Righteous

I've been waiting since SXSW to see San Francisco's BIRDS & BATTERIES come through LA on tour. Finally, next week (JUNE 5th), we'll get a taste of this band as they do their first US tour to support the brilliant full-length, 'I'll Never Sleep Again'. Labels: Birds and Batteries
Two Future Sounds favorites come into town tonight from Sweden: EL PERRO DEL MAR & LYKKE LI! They play the El Rey this evening with newcomer and fellow Swede, Anna Ternheim. Should be a night filled with gorgeous voices.Labels: El Perro Del Mar, Lykke Li
Have I got a band for you!! I've been playing a band on my radio show called MARYANDI for weeks, but there was no information on this mysterious band, not even a Myspace page, until now. They are actually called THE YELLING, and I think they've caught lightning in a bottle. Track "Blood On The Steps" is like blitzkrieg, and "21st Century Freak" takes BOWIE and mashes it with NIRVANA. Frontman Nathaniel Cox and guitarist Robert Davis grew up together in Southern Illinois before moving to LA to start a band. Robert's Mom owned and ran a guitar shop in Carbondale, IL and that triggered their musical interest, and after seeing the band live at our party a few weeks back, this guy has riffs up his sleeves that we aren't even ready for, as he's an incredible guitarist. Their afro'd drummer Michael Judd is from South Africa via Boston, and the latest addition is bassist Wiley Hodgden. I was impressed with Wiley's ability to finger pick one moment and play it straight the next, and even more floored when I found out how recently he joined the unit. Collectively they make music that will not sit unnoticed for long, and already, after only a few shows, the weasels are sniffing at their doors.Labels: The Yelling

Tomorrow is a big day - PORT O'BRIEN'S record, "All We Could Do Was Sing" is released, and the band will be performing live on my FUTURE SOUNDS radio show on LITTLE RADIO as well! I'm a huge fan of this band, and I think everyone will soon feel the same way.Labels: Little Radio, Port O'Brien
Our good friends, THE BLACKS (FS30) kick off their residency at PIANOS as everyone is about to experience the "the tambourine experience". Hailed by Missionfreak.com as "the BEST tambourine playing I've ever seen, period", the trip mix garage rock dirty with 300 tambourines. Do NOT miss it. Labels: The Blacks

Hey listeners, there won't be a FUTURE SOUNDS radio program on Little Radio this week - I'm in London for some shows. Next week though I'm thrilled to have PORT O' BRIEN in studio for a live performance. This Bay area band and their remarkable EP, All We Could Do Was Sing, has been in constant rotation around FSHQ. Labels: Little Radio, Port O'Brien
Word has it that PIN ME DOWN played their first "secret" show ever last night in Brooklyn to get ready for shows in London next week. Russell is stepping out for a moment from recording the new BLOC PARTY record to play with his mates, fronted by rock goddess-in-the-making Milena Mepris.
