TANKFARM FUTURE SOUNDS PRESENTS @ THE ROXY: APRIL 23RD

Hey, it's about time we did something in LA again! I've got news coming soon about the RUMBLE coming to Los Angeles in the coming months, but in the meantime we're excited to be a part of an evening of some intense RAWK! First off, for FS favorites - SABROSA PURR - we'll go anywhere to hear that guy scream. They've got songs up on RCRD LBL and a new album that is blistering. On the bill as well - MARYANDI - a band I've recently received demo mp3's from (thanks to Golden Sugar Bear) and I've been playing on the radio show. I can't imagine this band sitting around for long before a label deal floats their way. I haven't heard or seen JONNEINE ZAPATA yet, but she comes with glowing recommendations.

TONIGHT IN LA: SAM SPARRO @ THE VIPER ROOM

Tonight at The Viper Room it's our boy - SAM SPARRO (FS29)! He just got back from tearing up London, where it seems everyone is chasing him on the label front.

OTHER FUTURE SOUNDS NEWS:

JUICEBOXXX is up for 'Video of the Year' on Subterranean.

This just recently showed up on HITS regarding FS30 act, LYKKE LI:
JUST LIKE OLD TIMES: Lots of weasel action happening for the Filip Wilén-managed Lykke Li. Label reps and publishers were out in full force for the 21-year old Swedish act’s shows in N.Y. during the last couple of weeks. We heard her Mercury Lounge gig was sold out purely from the industry guest list. Label reps who attended shared with us that they were surprised to see that many industry folks filling up the Mercury. Li has been in the Apple recording an album with producer Bjorn Yttling from Peter Bjorn & John. It looks like the industry frenzy may shift across the pond for Li’s upcoming U.K. shows…

Spotted, V on GG:
Not sure if you watch GOSSIP GIRL or not (not sure why you don't), but FS29 act THE VIRGINS were just featured on last week's episode.

BODIES OF WATER (FS28) have signed to Secretly Canadian. Congratulations guys!

TONIGHT IN THE OC: SABROSA PURR + THE WILDBIRDS

SABROSA PURR - If you haven't heard them yet, and you're a fan of actual rawk, then you need to hear someone with some real fury. I can't say enough about this LA 3-piece and think once their newly finished LP gets in the hands of labels, it should be a quick turnaround. As icing on the cake, they are playing with another Future Sounds favorite, THE WILDBIRDS, and best of all, it's FREE. Worth the drive out to Costa Mesa to THE DETROIT BAR.

FUTURE SOUNDS UPDATES

I just received four new songs, unmixed, from a band I've been yapping about for some time - LA's SABROSA PURR. I just keep playing it again and again, mostly because I'm addicted to the scream. Now, if you've received Future Sounds over the years, I generally don't respond to many heavy bands that scream, but when you nail it, you nail it. SP's frontman, Will Love, has the best scream in the music business. These tracks will make up their forthcoming release, 'To The Crickets and The Ghosts'. My favorites so far are 'Mary On The Side' and the monster 'Killing The Aries'. Think JANES ADDICTION meets FU MANCHU. Raw power indeed.

LIONS & TIGERS (FS26) are playing tonight at the Luna Lounge in Brooklyn with THE JAGUAR CLUB.
The BAND OF THIEVES will be featured on Fox's GOOD DAY NEW YORK tomorrow morning at 8:30am, performing 'Woman', one of my feel good songs of the summer.

At this point my other summer fav's would have to be:
NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB - "The Bomb"
CALVIN HARRIS - "The Girls"
MAGIC BULLETS - "Heatstroke"
ILLINOIS - "One On One"
KUDU - "Rock This Way"
COLD WAR KIDS - "Hang Me Up To Dry"
JAMIE T - "If You Got The Money"
ROLLING STONES - "Shattered"

In LA Tonight:
Indie 103.1 presents FOREIGN BORN (FS19) + GREAT NORTHERN tonight at the Hammer Museum for FREE!

The Hammer Museum
10899 Wilshire Blvd.
Los Angeles, California 90024

The outrageous, GRAVY TRAIN!!! (FS02) is on the cover of this week's SF WEEKLY

What's up with all these jackasses that hack our Myspace pages and send out spam full of misspellings and stupid offers? Does it ever work??

The new INTERPOL - Our Love To Admire is good, and maybe in time it will grow on me, but I'm kinda underwhelmed so far after 5-6 plays. I think it's because I always have such high expectations, and that first record is one of the best. It's better than most, but I wonder how big it can go with the help of Capitol Records?

Long time FUTURE SOUNDER- DAVID HOPKINS, has a new CD out called 'Running With Knives'. It's self-released (for now) and has some tracks you may recall like "Meet Me In The Morning" (FS23). Rumor has it the Hopper has moved to LA. His name was also 'Buzzin' on HITS yesterday.

Two acts that I really love, DAVID VANDERVELDE (FS27) and BLITZEN TRAPPER, are heading out on the road together here in July across the country.

The new album by EDITORS - 'An End Has A Start' debuted at #1 in the UK, selling over 60,000 copies in the first week. They've come a long way from being unsigned on FS18 ("Bullets") !!! Congrats to a great live band.

Better late than never, GALLOWS are Spin.com's 'Band of the Day' today.

I ran across a link on a blog somewhere for the London band, BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB and like what I've heard thus far on Myspace. Hell, they're playing the Reading and Leeds Festivals, so they must be getting some action while being unsigned. Check out 'Cancel On Me', let it play until the end......
