HOLLYWOOD BREWFEST THIS SATURDAY - UNLIMITED TASTINGS + LIVE MUSIC

This Saturday night in Hollywood, we're presenting a beer festival at the gorgeous MUSIC BOX @ FONDA where for the $45 ticket price, you can drink unlimited tastings of over 35 breweries while watching bands on two stages and dancing to DJ's on the rooftop.

You've been to some beer festivals, you know what I'm talking about, the kind where people have their hat backwards, in some field with white tents, and if they happen to have music playing, it isn't the kind you wanna hear. We're looking to flip that experience, deliver cool sounds that represent Los Angeles and beyond, while you taste amazing beers like MAGIC HAT or cask beers in the Blue Palms Brewhouse. Breaking it down over 8 hours, the unlimited beer tastings makes this a cheap night out drinking, with bands as a bonus.

TONIGHT IN LOS ANGELES: GREAT NORTHERN + LEMON SUN

Tonight at The Roxy it's GREAT NORTHERN with LEMON SUN and THE JAKES for the KROQ Locals Only party. Great Northern has just finished a new record that they are previewing live that they just finished up with working with Michael Patterson. Great triple-bill this evening.

TONIGHT IN LA: GREAT NORTHERN & THE COMAS

TONIGHT at Spaceland in Silverlake, GREAT NORTHERN + THE COMAS.
If you haven't heard the lush sounds of Great Northern yet then we simply must physically come to your house and remove the Daughtry record from your clutches. Eenie Meenie Records wisely signed this shoegazin' bunch from LA and released their CD, 'Trading Twilight For Daylight', and they're playing with another act I really like, THE COMAS. Should make for a great night of music.

NEW SOUNDS: MAPS & MIRACLE FORTRESS

I won't deny it, I've always been a huge shoegazer fan, it's why I love working with FILM SCHOOL so much. Coming back from a show, late night, swirling sounds, fuzzy feelings, you get the idea. The sound keeps evolving each year and the new versions of the genre keep flowering interesting and gorgeous takes on this sonic category. I'm hoping people are aware of the great music that the Northampton band, MAPS, are making. Their latest, We Can Create (Mute), has been nominated for the Mercury Prize, and its well deserved. Tracks like 'Elouise' and 'You Don't Know Her Name' are stunning. (Thanks to Each Note Secure and Sound Bites for the tracks).

Another artist that has really grabbed me is MIRACLE FORTRESS from Montreal. They are on Secret City and their song, 'Have You Seen In Your Dreams' off the Five Roses cd kills me. (Thanks to Hero Hill). Worth checking out and I hope to see them live this year.

So when you throw in the likes of bands like THE TWILIGHT SAD, ASOBI SEKSU, and GREAT NORTHERN, there are many great shoegazin' bands pushing forward the sound.

Funny enough, I just read that THE GUARDIAN ran a similar story today.....
