KUDU SET TO DROP “BACK FOR MORE: A REMIX COLLECTION”

Brooklyn's KUDU, a band we love here at Future Sounds (FS27), are set to deliver "Back For More: A Remix Collection" on June 10th on Nublu Records. The album features remixes of tracks off "Death Of The Party" as well as new songs.

Here's the list of folks that get their hands on their songs:
ARMAND VAN HELDEN, SINDEN, TOMMIE SUNSHINE, DROP THE LIME, KING BRITT, LINGLING, HESS IS MORE, DANCES WITH WHITE GIRLS, CURTIS VODKA and MKL.

I've heard the SINDEN remix for "Let's Finish" and it's a banger. KING BRITT takes on "Barstar".

KUDU HITS THE WEST COAST THIS WEEK

KUDU joins MESHELL N’DEGEOCELLO on select west coast dates of her 2007 world tour supporting her critically-acclaimed new album THE WORLD HAS MADE ME THE MAN OF MY DREAMS out now on EMARCY/DECCA/UMGD.

The dates are as follows:
OCTOBER 21: SACRAMENTO, CA - HARLOW’S
OCTOBER 22: SAN FRANCISCO, CA - THE INDEPENDENT
OCTOBER 24: EUGENE, OR - WOW HALL
OCTOBER 25: PORTLAND, OR - ROSELAND THEATER

The band was handpicked by Meshell, whose new album features several collaborations with Kudu’s master drummer, Deantoni “D” Parks. Parks co-wrote and appears on 3 blistering cuts including “Article 3”, “The Sloganeer: Paradise” and “Headline”, and will join the band in November for the final leg of their US tour as the live drummer (replacing current drummer, Charles Haynes, whose wife is expecting a baby). Catch “D” on the following dates:

NOVEMBER 12: DETROIT, MI - MAJESTIC THEATER
NOVEMBER 13: CHICAGO, IL - HOUSE OF BLUES
NOVEMBER 14: MILWAUKEE, WI - TURNER HALL
NOVEMBER 15: MINNEAPOLIS, MN - FINE LINE

Never ones to rest on their laurels, KUDU have been quite busy over the past few months. In between live dates (on both sides of the Atlantic) and collaborations with numerous artists (including Moby, Meshell N’degeocello, Spank Rock and Benny Blanco, Hess Is More, Telepopmusik, John Cale and Mars Volta), the gang have been writing and recording material for their eagerly-anticipated new album. Sylvia Gordon's side project, BETTY BLACK, performed at the FADER Party at CMJ this week and last night at Don Hill's for the MeanRED showcase.

They have also been compiling material for their forthcoming remix collection, which will include new and previously issued remixes alongside a cherry-picked selection of new tracks, B-sides and rare recordings to be released in early 2008 on Nublu Records. Expect innovative and dancefloor-friendly reconstructions of some of the stand-out tracks from Death of the Party on the as-yet-untitled set brilliantly retooled by a diverse collective of cutting-edge producers and remixers including Trouble and Bass, Sinden, In Flagranti (aka Sasha Crnobrnja & Alex Gloor), King Britt, Morel, Armand Van Helden and more!

Illvia, Sylvia Gordon’s foul-mouthed “B-Girl” alter-ego, is featured on 2 blazin’ hot tracks - “B.O.O.T.A.Y.” (with Santogold) and “Pu$$y” from SPANK ROCK and Benny Blanco’s gloriously twisted new EP Bangers & Cash out now on Downtown Records. Be sure to check out the sick video for “B.O.O.T.A.Y.” featuring Illvia, SANTOGOLD and Amanda Black coming soon!

KUDU then performs live in NYC with CHROMEO and DAN DEACON at Judson Church [55 Washington Square South] for New York Magazine’s “All Hallows Madness” on Tuesday, October 30th at 10PM!

NEW SPANKROCK: BLACK BETTY & SANTOGOLD

If you haven't seen the cover art for the new SPANK ROCK yet, here it is in all it's 'Baby's got back' meets 2 LIVE CREW glory. Spank Rock were smart enough to sign with Downtown Records, and now I see they were brilliant in that they got KUDU's BLACK BETTY and SANTOGOLD to put vocals down on their track, "Bootay!"(mp3) - thanks to Missingtoof.com. Turn up the bass!

In the bad news department, I just read that MOHAIR has decided to break up. Great band, good guys, best of luck!

FS27's SONICFLYER had this great live review on GIGWISE:

"Next up were the hotly tipped Sonicflyer who captured hearts and blew the cobwebs off of the expectant crowd with huge soundscapes and a sound that will surely see them snapped up very soon. The Siberian brother and sister combo's songwriting was a breath of fresh air, as accompanied by their bass player and guitarist, Sonicflyer should by rights be headlining their own shows as the sound emanating from the stage was absolutely stunning. Think of a dazed Frente! With a dash of Kwoon and a pinch of Sigur Ros and you're halfway there. Shoegaze guitar lines with punchy choruses and an ethereal songstress with a penchant for late 90's indie became a winning combination as Sonicflyer soared, giving the gig the pick up it needed before our Los Angeles heroes took the stage. Brilliant is an understatement."

FS26 featured artists, THE DUDES, will be featured on CBC's 'Country Canada' satellite station, on October 3rd.

THE STILLS
(FS06) have signed a worldwide deal with Arts & Crafts Records.

Ken Stringfellow's (POSIES, R.E.M., BIG STAR) new group, THE DISCIPLINES have released the "Best Mistake"/"No Vacancy" vinyl single and download on Weekender Records in the UK.

My favorite band from Cork, Ireland are now officially London residents. THE CLASS OF 1984 just came over on the boat, and they could use some friends in the big city, so look them up. This was taken from their blog:
"were here. clueless. newham. dock area. drunken sailors and early houses. fog horns and harlots. welcome to London class of 1984. ferry ride was calm but we were sick all the same. its tradition i think. at the bow of the ferry, arms outstretched shouting "I'm the king of the world" until we dock in Fishguard and are laughed at in a McDonald's. well boo hoo said Boo Radley. London is bigger than we last remembered. finding a bedsit to rest our weary bones is proving to be difficult because we are penniless musicians. "no room at the inn" indeed! we appreciate all your comments lately though. we will return to the classroom quite soon so be patient 84ians. music hath such charms to soothe the savage beast and soothe we shall. very soon. now i am off for a pint of bitter"
They should have some London shows lined up as soon as they find a couch to sleep on.

Finally, KUDU is heading over to Sweden with ROXY COTTONTAIL to play dates in Stockholm, Gotenburg, and some other city I can't pronounce on Sept 13, 14 & 15.

KUDU PLAYS TONIGHT IN NEW YORK

If you haven't seen KUDU yet and you live in New York, I simply don't know what to tell you. If you want to actually see something different from the same old - 4 slacker guys in ironic t-shirts, and you want to glimpse something from another universe altogether, show up at the HIRO BALLROOM tonight. KUDU are from somewhere past Neptune, past Pluto, think FUNKADELIC mixed with ESG.
