TONIGHT: MAGIC BULLETS @ CAFE DU NORD

A band you'll be hearing plenty about - MAGIC BULLETS - play tonight for the CD release show in San Francisco with 2 amazing support bands:
THE MORNING BENDERS
RESCUE ME

Worth driving up to SF for - Magic Bullets will lead off FUTURE SOUNDS 28 - just wait! The Morning Benders are an excellent Bay area band that I've talked about before, and Rescue Me is a new band on the scene with a dark sound that should go up quickly.

NEW FIND: CANON

Part Ok Computer -RADIOHEAD, part Parachutes-COLDPLAY, the album Wide Awake by the Los Angeles based CANON, is really strong. A four piece containing two brothers, this record goes all over the place in a very ambitious grand scale. The rock of the group is singer/keyboardist Jason Turbin, and this guy can wail. "Don't Trust The Teachers" is like the 2007 version of 'Another Brick In The Wall". I haven't seen it live yet, but if they come even to the half-way point of this recording, it's worth the ticket price.

BROTHER READE BIRTHDAY BASH TONIGHT

If you haven't heard BROTHER READE yet, you need to. "The Marcie Song" is one of those smart, hip hop tracks that doesn't come around too often anymore. These guys are known for throwing the hottest house parties on the East side of LA, tonight should be no different.

NEW SOUNDS: THE CUBICAL

"I'm gonna Booglarize you baby....."

Sounding like the original hound dog himself, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, Liverpool, England's THE CUBICAL has that dirty swamp sound that overtakes you. I mean, where the hell did this come from??? Signed to the Record Collection, they're set to drop their record sometime this summer/fall in the US. Bluesy, nasty, tribal, and completely refreshing. TOM WAITS better look over his shoulder......Do yourself a favor and visit their myspace page for a listen.

BIO
Paroxysms of excitement greeted the arrival of Apartment's debut singles on Fierce Panda - the taut, anxious spastic-pop of "Everyone Says I'm Paranoid" and its follow up, "Patience Is Proving". Then, apparently things went quiet, but Apartment have been very busy indeed, recording their debut album, and securing a deal with Filthy Lucre - the new label of former A&R man, Jack Steven (MCA Records, RCA Records, CBS Records, Ministry Of Sound). Not ones to be accused of resting on their laurels, and in the spirit of independence, the band also set up their own label, Fleet Street Records (The Far Cries and The Saudi Playboys being their first releases, look out for the upcoming Mersaultmusic).

As anyone who has caught the band's recent live shows can testify, they are a revelation. Witness the stage invasion during their fierce and unhinged sets at the Filthy Lucre label launch at the Embassy Club recently. Tom Gillet wielding his bass like an axe, stomping a hole in the floor with his silver boots, while Davide de Santis' nimble, spacious guitar licks tangled with Liam Fletcher's complex, pin-sharp beats. And finally, David Caggiari owning the stage, his inimitable vocals soaring above the melee, toying with the crowd and making sure everyone is having a fabulous time. In short, a thumping 8-legged indie rock machine in full flight.
