New Web Site for FILM SCHOOL

If you have a second, shoot on over to the new look, newly relaunched FILM SCHOOL official Web site at http://filmschoolmusic.com/

The site was built by Matt at Algorithm Design - http://www.algorithmdesign.com/

If you've heard rumors that the band broke up, it's untrue. Two members of the band have made some major life choices and we only wish them the best and are sad to see them go. HOWEVER, the remaining members still plan on moving forward, rebuilding the live unit, and are already working on their second release on Beggars Banquet.

DARKER MY LOVE: FUTURE SOUNDS ACTS RELEASE ALBUMS THIS WEEK

I've been running my mouth of recently about DARKER MY LOVE, and for good reason: they bring it live! Dark, sludgy, psych music made for late nights and special intoxicants. Well, yesterday they released their self-titled debut on Dangerbird Records. This is for fans of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Dead Meadow, The Warlocks, and the Velvet Underground.

CATCH THEM LIVE SOON:
August 25 - Hemlock, San Franciso
August 26 - Sunset Junction, Silver Lake
September 28 - Popscene, San Francisco
September 30 - Chop Suey, Seattle w/ Asobi Sesku
October 1 - Holoscene, Portland w/ Asobi Sesku
October 4 - Attic, Santa Cruz w/ Asobi Sesku
October 5 - Detroit Bar, Costa Mesa w/ Asobi Sesku
October 6 - The Echo, Los Angeles w/ Asobi Sesku

Another amazing band that I've previously boasted about is Seattle's GOSLING. They showed up on an old FS and yesterday dropped their V2 RECORDS debut, Here Is, and this album is excellent! I expected to be like 'Mr Skeleton Wings' (the track I put on Future Sounds), but this record goes everywhere. One minute heavy, the next it has George Harrison sounding riffs and gorgeous vocals. My favorite song is "Stealing Stars", one you'll put on repeat dozens of times, but "Come Into My Room" is also stellar. I strongly recommend this CD.

Other former FUTURE SOUNDS artists releasing records this week:

Broadcast: The Future Crayon (Warp)
Man, do I LOVE Broadcast.

The Mars Volta: Amputechture (Interscope)
I'd like to say I'm excited, but I'm not. Sometimes you can be too smart for your own good. Prog for the sake of prog is not my thing, but then they are probably so deep that I couldn't possibly understand.

Nouvelle Vague: Bande A Part (Luaka Bop)
Love this outfit, only worried that trying to duplicate magic in a bottle never works.

Ratatat: Classics (XL)
Great party music, this one sounds good.

Razorlight: Razorlight (Universal)
Will they finally break the US? I doubt it, but some catchy tunes like "In The Morning"

Snowden: Anti Anti (Jade Tree)
I really love this band, and you couldn't find much nicer humans to boot. Purchase this one.

The Thermals: The Body, The Blood, The Machine (Sub Pop)
Sub Pop keeps chugging along with solid releases - hyper music.

MAKING THE VIDEO: LEMON SUN "TELEPHONE"

Spent the weekend on the campus of Loyola Marymount University, while LEMON SUN shot their first music video for the track, "Telephone". 15 hours on day one alone was time well spent, as Director Jason Argyropoulos was able to capture the band's vision. Think black and white-Ed Wood-esque meets Snakes On A Plane flying telephones. The video is going to be an added bonus to the band's Japanese only LP release this fall. I'll start leaking tracks soon on the site, so check back in.

TUESDAY RELEASE: LA ROCCA "THE TRUTH"

You may remember LA ROCCA from FUTURE SOUNDS 17 ("This Life"), but either way, this Irish band that I think have enormous potential released their new full-length, The Truth, today > August 8 on the ass-kicking label, DANGERBIRD RECORDS. For those of you that haven't noticed, this label is about to drop the new SILVERSUN PICKUPS album (another former Future Sounds alumni), and just recently signed the LA act, DARKER MY LOVE (for fans of MBV, Ride, BRMC, Dead Meadow).

I've compared them with a lot of greats (see here)but this Tony Hoffer produced LP should grab everyone's attention. Read their bio HERE.

If you're around LA, catch them on August 10 at the Hotel Cafe
