MtyMx

NYC hipster promoter cum laude Todd P, has for the past four years, booked a (somewhat) alternative to SXSW, at Ms. Bea's in Austin. It's been a party that generally brings 100 or so bands and a couple thousand fans. Well, this year Todd is hooking up with promotors Yo Garage and going across the border- to Monterrey, Mexico- and bringing quite the collection of blog-loving buzz bands with him. 75 bands, split over three days (25/day) including 'headliners' No Age, Andrew WK, Dan Deacon, Acid Mothers Temple (from Japan y'all), Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, Tanlines, Pocahaunted, Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü and a great big pile of the best indie/rock/punk/lo-fi/whatever-you-want-to-call-it gaze bands from Mexico you've (most likely) never heard. They are calling the all-ages art and music festival MtyMx.

The event will take place on the lot of an old drive-in movie theatre (thanks to BV) which has no doubt already given some of of the younger bands reason to get excited: "Dude we're playing an all-ages show in Mexico at an abandoned drive-in in the sweltering sun. PARTY!" One of the best things of the day- besides the sheer ass-kicking promotions work on P and YG's part in getting quite the impressive roster of 'it' bands all in one place (No Age, Washed Out, Toro y Moi, Pictureplane, Fucked Up, Dan Deacon) is that there will be no overlapping sets and the entire three-day, 75 (more might be added) band blowout is only $30 for the entire weekend. On-site camping and discounted hotel rates are available (also cheap at $35-$45 per night). It's also great, (being that I grew up in CO) they are bringing Rhinoceropolis (collective/venue/DIY heroes) on board to guest curate.

No doubt many of the posts on MtyMx will end this way, but here it goes: Viva La Mexico!
