NEW SOUNDS: THE WEIGHT
This year has already brought us THE HEAVY, this time I'd like to turn you onto THE WEIGHT from Brooklyn. Coming in from the mysterious COLONEL RECORDS, the full-length, ''The Weight Are Men" has gotten many spins since it's arrival. To give you a hint at what it sounds like, think Brooklyn guys playing country music - a la BEACHWOOD SPARKS, you know the kind of guys that have spent many, many hours listening to 'Sweethearts Of The Rodeo', GRAM PARSONS' 'G.P. / Grievous Angel', and plenty of music by THE BAND. They could've found their band name directly from 'ol Rick, Garth and Levon in "The Weight", and I like to think that maybe they did based on the funky freedom and all over the place range of the songs on this album.
Tracks like "Had It Made", "Johnny's Song" and "Talkin'" are my early favorites, and each one shows off a different personality of the band's brand of country/americana rock.
