HABITFORMING TOMORROW NIGHT @ MEZZANINE
THE PEELS, SCISSORS FOR LEFTY, HABITFORMING, DJ KEY BUMPS ON THE BEACH TO PLAY FREE SHOW AT MEZZANINE
Mezzanine will host a free show on Tuesday April 26, 2005, featuring Bay Area bands THE PEELS, HABITFORMING and SCISSORS FOR LEFTY with a special DJ set by KEY BUMPS ON THE BEACH. Mezzanine will co-produce the free concert with The Guardian as part of the club’s new CALIFORNIA HOMEGROWN MUSIC SERIES. The monthly concerts will provide an exciting venue for up-and-coming California-based bands to showcase their unique Bay Area sounds.
THE PEELS have been described as 80’s art rock meets new garage. But, it’s the compelling voice of lead singer Robyn Miller that has helped the band achieve international status. With comparisons to Janis Joplin’s amped-up proto-blues style, Miller and her band have released their self-titled debut with songs including “I Only Miss You When You’re Gone,” and “Only Son” propelling the band on a 50-date US/Canadian tour alongside The Ravonettes and Autolux beginning in May.
SCISSORS FOR LEFTY describes their sound as flirtatious indie-pop with adventurous messages of love gone wrong. Originally from the San Luis Obispo live scene, the band recently relocated to San Francisco where they quickly won local praise for their quirky style. They were named one of the top ten unsigned bands in the Bay Area by Live 105 and won the Pabst Blue Ribbon band spotlight in the SF Weekly.
HABITFORMING first emerged from the depths of the San Francisco avant-garde performance underground scene in 2002. Scoring art-minded theater pieces with their heavy grinding epic songs, HABITFORMING has matured into a full-fledged rock band with a style all their own. Melting melodic overtones with raw, industrial strength scores, the foursome are putting the finishing touches on their third album, “Involved.” The band will play a selection of upcoming tracks from the new album.
